giguere is not confirmed yet and only speculation.
Just ran the numbers
kabrele 4.25
komi 4.5
finger 3.5
beauchemin 3.8
schenn 3
and now phaneuf 6.5
total of 25.55 mil
plus kessel 5.4, blake 4 and also giggy 6total of 40.95 mil for all those guys
leaving approx 15 mil for the remaining 10 forwards..possible less depending on how much the cap goes down this year.
with no draft picks (that could play right away...) or real talent on the farm this is all just band aids... |

| I don't dislike the trade....considering none of the players traded are in the future for the leafs. Toronto has too many defence now....so I suspect a further trade will be done to unload some defence. The big part of this trade to me is Keith Aulie. He is a massive young defenceman that should make Schenn a little scared about being a leaf for much longer. |

agree.
the leafs need to free up some money big time. great d is meaningless if no one scores.
calgary won the trade for the "right now" though. They can't score goals and just got better at it. |

I agree...this will help the Flames right now. The biggest part of the trade for calgary is Hagman...he still has two years left on his contract and he will give them some punch up front with scoring. Stajan and Mayers are just extra bodies in the trade and white is there to fill the defence spot. |

wow......that is big...to get rid of the blake contract helps a lot.
Too bad the leafs have probably given up the first overall pick for the next two years to Boston.....the only light in that is how much it will piss off Montreal fans.

you traded 8 million for 7 million.
i can always pray for the lottery to give them a worse pick. Toronto is going to win even less games now...
you guys would have lost toskala anyway, so burke at least got better in net and made a million...not a bad trade. Giguere has one more year left...he is not the same goalie as he was though.
i am surprised Giguere waived his no trade clause. |

its not like the ducks are going anywhere. If anything, this helps keep Gustovsson from demanding more money then he is worth. He becomes a legit back up goalie for the next year and then can take over the lead role after JS is gone.
Burke is finally doing what he has to do and that's clear out all the old leafs and get new faces in here.
I'm still pissed about the Kessel trade though. Taylor Hall would have looked great in a leaf uniform. |
