Well it looks like I can post here again.....bye bye JFJ....hello Cliff Fletcher:conf: :conf: :conf: :conf: :conf:
talk about bringing back an old dog if this is the case. I don't know if Fletcher is the right guy for the job but it is better than JFJ....I have a feeling that Fletcher is going to want the title of president and that will probably be given to him at the end of the season....there is no way he would take on this job if he had to work within the confines that JFJ had to. |

Report: Leafs Will Replace John Ferguson Jr.
Tuesday January 22, 2008
CityNews.ca Staff
After weeks of speculation unconfirmed reports suggest the Toronto Maple Leafs may finally be ready to replace General Manager John Ferguson Jr. According to a league source, Cliff Fletcher will take over as interim G.M. A formal announcement on the move is expected sometime Tuesday.
Despite rumours that the Maple Leaf Sports and Entertainment board of directors met Monday to decide the fate of the position, MLSE president Richard Peddie says he hasn't relieved Ferguson of his duties.
"I have not fired John (Ferguson),'" Peddie said Tuesday morning.
The Leafs have won three of their last four games, but have largely struggled in January. They've also missed the playoffs the past two years and are in 14th place in the NHL's Eastern Conference standings.
If Fletcher gets the nod, it will be his second tenure with the team. He was GM of the Leafs from 1991 to 1997.

its been 10 years since Fletcher was the GM....he was an old dog then.....I just hope he has time to make decisions between diaper changes. |

| Pretty short-sighted decision on behalf of the MLSE given his history... Lets hope this is nothing more than an interim thing. |

Most likely he is there to clean house for this season and then will take over as president. I am sure he will have a say in who the next GM will be. |

This is just an admission by MLSE that the Maple Laughs isn't a competitive team, and there is going to be some sort of house cleaning going on.
This year's team has to be the worst the leafs have fielded in what, 20 yrs? |

| apparently, the new GM that gets hired at the end of the season will get full power of hockey operations. similar to brian colangelo with the raptors. |
