I see your point though. In Buffalo it's always more of a muffled complaint than any serious backlash over the team's lack of success. They seem to care more about the Bills being so terrible than anything else (which is understandable, as it's a stretch to even call the Bills an NFL team), but it drives me mad walking out of the arena hearing people joking about the loss or how badly the team played.
I agree with you that winning is what matters. It's hard to drum up that kind of following though because you have a lot of bandwagon Rangers fans in upstate NY. The season when Buffalo had Briere, Drury, and Vanek was one of the most exciting seasons I've ever seen aside from their appearance in the cup. I guess I was naive to think that Briere and Drury (or even one of them) would stay in Buffalo after their relatively early exit from the playoffs.
I even bought a ing authentic Drury jersey that year :mad:
It seems like the only players that the Sabres ever pay top dollar to keep are goalies. Even with Hasek in the net (imo the best goaltender of all time), they couldn't even win the cup. |
