Which President are you referring to?
I guess that's legitimate though. They should only really care about The Stanley's Cup. |

Look man, all i am saying here is that some teams in the Nhl would not have a ceremony for a presidents cup or division championship banner raising. If they did something like that in Montreal the organization would be ridiculed by its own fans. Heck, Toronto hasn't won a cup in 44 years, and i don't think that their fans would stand for that either. How proud do you think Washington was to be President's Cup winners last year.
that being said:
"The Montreal Canadiens have finished first overall 21 times, the most times in league history, although this was most recently accomplished in 1977–78, and have never won the trophy. Detroit is second with 18 first-overall finishes"
Maurice Richard never won the Maurice Richard trophy...i guess he never won the scoring title.
Playfulness aside, i like Buffalo...because for the 3 games i've been there for, it felt like a home game for us. More of us than of you:D |

The President's Cup? Is that a new award they're giving out these days? I must not be too up to date with my hockey.
People are usually proud of achievements. Winning your division, winning your conference, winning the President's Cup, they're all achievements.
It's sad that your team's fans are so jaded that they can't be proud of their team for accomplishing anything other than winning the Stanley Cup.
If that's the case, you should stop arguing that your team is better, or that the Sabres won't make the playoffs this year, because after all, if Montreal doesn't win the Stanley Cup, nothing they've done this year matters, no?
You sound like a Yankees fan. Although I'm sure that if Montreal goes down in the first round of the playoffs, you'll say "hey, at least we made the playoffs." Stop being a hypocrite. If nothing matters but winning the cup, then stfu until they win it. |

nice backpedal.
there is nothing wrong with not celebrating anything less than a cup win.
you grew up in the era of "everyone gets a trophy" i suppose.
i suppose that is normal with a franchise that has won vs one that has never.
btw since buffalo has been in the league the habs have 10 cups. :D
buffalo has.... |

Yes everyone who wins their conference or division gets a trophy, that's usually how it works. That's why in Major League Baseball the winner of each league gets a pennant every year, even if they don't win the world series.
Not celebrating anything but a Stanley Cup is just a tradition in Montreal, and a few other cities. That doesn't mean that it should be the norm, or that nobody else should ever celebrate anything other than a Stanley Cup.
You're right, Buffalo has never won a Stanley Cup. I don't know if the successes and shortcomings of the Canadiens dictate your entire life, but I'm not losing any sleep over the fact that the team that I support has never won a Stanley Cup.
Also, the Sabres became a team in 1970, and since then the habs have won 8 cups, not 10. :D |

yeah, my mistake...i always forget that there was a second expansion after 1967.
I watch center ice every night, not just habs games...just so i can make sure to give it to everyone on various hockey sites.
If Boston weren't playing the Leafs tonight, we would be playing for first place:D
I think the President's trophy is cool and stuff, but I don't care what city you are in...banners in the rafters should only be cups and retired numbers. Look at the Southeast division and how bad it was for the longest time. A few years the team that was seeded from this division only made the playoffs because it won it, if not it would have been 9th.
Is that worth celebrating? |

| The leafs put up a banner for every goal they score this year |

what do you think of the Versteeg deal?
finally the commitment to a proper rebuild imo. |

I think when you've had the level of success that your franchise has, yes I could see why you would think that way.
If you were a Sabres fan, and your team had never won a Stanley Cup, wouldn't you hang banners for Division and/or Conference Championships? At that point it seems like it's more for the fans than anything else. Like a "hey look there's still some hope" kind of thing.
I do completely understand your point of view on the subject, but it's hard being the fan of a team who perpetually torpedoes their chances of actually putting together a solid team for more than one year. I like the Sabres whether they're good or not, and I'll sure as hell celebrate if and when they win their division or their conference.
You're just spoiled. :p |

No, as Habs fans we feel a sense of entitlement. Not so much this new generation of younger Habs fans, but those of us who are old enough to have experienced wins. We also get our history shoved down our throats every day, because it is the biggest marketing angle the team has.
Other cities don't get why we are like this, but the thing is they don't understand how big a role hockey plays here. No disrespect to any other city, but no team is as followed than here. They make front page news for non hockey related stories ffs. It's why we are cunts. :D |

I think its the right move. Versteeg was playing on the "3rd" line, I quote it because the first and second lines are probably more of a third line, and he was invisible most nights. I think Burke expected much more from him.
The leafs have to commit to a proper rebuild...the problem is I don't think Burke can or will do that. He has been absolutely terrible at evaluating the talent he has....and I think this will be a continue problem of his. He will probably think Toronto is close next year and move away from the rebuild again. |
