Torontonians have held on to this 'hope' fallacy for way too long. Just get it over with, fork over the dough, and put the leafs fans out of their misery, and buy them the f-cking cup.

Toronto did this with the Blue Jays, and got the World Series. Highest payroll does not guarantee a cup, but it sure helps to keep the leafs out of bottom-feeder contention.

Well, that whole idea doesn't work anymore. There's a salary cap!!!

I gave up hope for this year. A few years from now is more realistic.

You know, regardless if the Leafs pull off a miracle and actually do make the playoffs it would be great. Even if they dont, you have to be happy with the kind of effort and results they've had over the past few weeks. At least we'll be going into next year with some kind of hope of them continuing this type of play.

Reminds me of my Dolphins last year. No shot at the playoffs, but they ran the table the last six games of the year, finishing 9 - 7, and did some great things in the offseason. Now, some people having them winning the division, and others even have them as a Superbowl contender.

oh, btw.

as another poster mentioned, the Rangers have had the highest payroll the past few seasons (at least) and havent made the playoffs in 7 years. Now with there is a salary cap, they had to cut their payroll in half, and theyre one of the top teams in the league.

Hockey is not Baseball, the most expensive players dont always allow you to build the best team. Baseball is kind of an 'individual' team game. Look at soccer, Real Madrid buys the most expensive players, but they are not the best team.

Weren't the Leafs one of the teams with the highest payroll in the league?

Its not about the money, its not about getting every best player.

Its about getting a couple of star players, solid goalie, and players who want to win.

A good chemistry between the players is the key to success.

All star teams don't work out usually.
