| I am predicting Kaberle traded to Getzlaf or Bobby Ryan. Once Neidermayer retires, Anaheim with need a good puck moving defenseman. And since Toronto needs a big body up from I can see something like this happening. Maybe more so Ryan than Getzlaf... Getzlaf and Perry are going to be hard to separate. Just like Lecavalier + St. Louis. |

Anaheim has almost $20 million in cap this off-season with only 4 avail roster spots.
Anyone that thinks they need to move one of their young franchise talents signed for under $6mil is a ing retard.
They will have no issue retaining Ryan for a similar contract Perry, Getzlaf, and Kessel signed for.
Neids might come back cheap like Rob Blake did.

I would like to see Marleau come to Toronto but given the Ron Wilson situation I'm sure he wouldn't sign, that is if Ronnie goes....
Jokinen is a thought but a big price tag. the rest are meh. But Plekanec or higgins would be great additions to our first and 2nd lines. I wouldn't take the bottom 5 off Chems list.
Frolov would be a great addition to our team, same with Lombardi. The prices seem adequate enough. |

Jokinen is a steaming pile of , has been for 3 seasons now. He's 31 and declining and if this team needs anything it's an under 30 centre and winger that will put up 70pt or more and signed for 3-4yrs.
Problem is that kind of player will cost $$$ that Toronto doesn't have avail until 2011.
Here's the 2010 roster.

Unless we lose Beauchemin & Finger we have no $$$ for an impact UFA this year.
The team is better off letting the kids develop as we aren't even sniffing the playoffs for 2-3 seasons, stay away from the UFA market as it is pretty ty and will require 3-5 yrs contracts for guys not putting up 70pts. So by the time this team is competitive the guys signed will likely be done anyway.
I can't believe how stupid some of you are. Frolov has had declining production for 3 seasons and is as moody as they come, Jokinen sucks, Chris Higgins is so ty he got dealt twice this yr and can't score more than 30pts.
Lombardi is like Matt Stajan lite, will cost the exact same $$$ that he just extended for, and IMO is not what we want in our 2nd line C, but our 3rd. I don't want to pay our #3 C that kind of money as Bozak & Kadri are the long term projects for our top two C slots.
Chemenchanced, that FA list is nothing but lazy ing players..Wellwood, Tanguay, Svatos..are you ing kidding me??
Hejduk resigned btw. |

I tend to agree that the leafs really shouldn't do much this off season and just let the young guys play but you know they will make one or two additions.
The leafs don't need defence or goaltending so no sense in looking at UFAs at those positions. They need top 6 forwards so if you can grab one or two you might as well. |

There are 3 top 6 forwards worthy of investing in, meaning they should hold their value if not improve over the term of their contracts.
Kovalchuk, Marleau, and Plekanec.
None of the 3 are coming here though. We don't have the funds avail and I doubt any of them want to come here.
As for your list, if they aren't a great group of players why the sign them? They certainly aren't an improvement on what we have except the few like Kovy/Marleau/Plakanec, so why would committing multiple seasons to crap interest you?
Frolov is the only top 6 forward aside from the other 3 that might be worth a gamble, but he's your typical cliche Russian floater and I'm not comfortable giving him a 3-4 yr deal.
You are right, we need top 6 forwards, but your list is full of borderline players. Marleau is the only player I really want, but it's not going to happen.
Best to sit tight and wait to see how the next few yrs go, fans need to stop wishing for some magic fix and accept there won't be playoffs for the next 3yrs minimum. |

| At least they wrapped him up for a couple of years. I'm surprised they didn't try to sign him to a longer contract. |

| 2 years makes sense considering his recent medical issues. They want to see if he can last a full season without further health concerns. |

i think they're still not sure of what he's capable of. if he pans out like they expect him to, they'll sign him for more. if not, it won't be that big of a loss. |
