The "Silver Ones" are the Sony MDR-V700DJ. Another main difference that you didn't point out is that they look a lot better than the 7506!
The MDR-7506 is actually identical to the Sony MDR-V6, but priced and marketed differently by Sony (to make the extra $$). The V6 is much less expensive, though, around 50-60 USD online (and is the obvious choice when it comes down to V6 vs. 7506).
Now, about the V700's, the "Silver Ones." Yeah, they look amazing, don't they? Too bad that looks can be deceiving. :) What seems like "better" bass is in fact exagerrated midbass. The 7506/V6 actually has much better bass quality, more accurate bass if you will. The V700 is basically Sony's attempt at dominance over the DJ market, more or less, so it sells for looks more than anything.
As for the durability, you will hear mixed reports. I use my V700's a lot - on the bus, at home, at school, etc. They've braved the elements: snow, rain, and sun. And right now, they're doing quite fine. The plastic around the swivel area is still intact, but then again others will tell you how it has broken for them. (Please note that I will be replacing my V700's soon enough anyway - I find them quite uncomfortable and heavy)
I am in a slightly similar situation as you. I'm waiting for a friend to acquire his V6's so I can test them out and decide if they're right for me. My personal recommendation would have been to try out both headphones and figure out for yourself what you like better (i.e. don't let someone convince you against your will based on their reasoning or their ears - your ears are your own and can tell you better - but, advice is advice, and if taken only as such, it is always helpful). As you have compared the two, you seemed to have already decided on the V700's. Though the choice is yours and yours alone, I recommend that you reconsider. Exaggerated bass is not "better" bass, in fact it is worse. For overall better sound quality, the V6/7506 is your choice. Another issue is that the V700's are way overpriced (again, Sony's little DJ-market penetration scheme - "they're expensive, so they gotta be good!").
I think I will stop short, since I've been involved in too many V700 debates. I'll just say that I'm a little sick with Sony right now, what with their business practices and lower quality products (compared to their offerings in the past). Mainly headphones and CD players.
Argh, already this is too long. You can find a lot more information on this sort of thing at Head-Fi (www.head-fi.org). Also, keep an eye out for Gluegun, he has a thing or two to say about headphones (an understatement). :) Lastly, check out some of the other posts regarding headphones in this forum - in fact, go back to the beginning of this very thread and read it in its entirety - there will be a lot of information just there.
I will just say right now that the V700 is generally *not* recommended by most, me included.

well i still like my v6's a whole lot more than the 280's... the 280's have a hell of a lot more isolation, no doubt about that, but the thing is, there is little to no bass :conf: :conf: :conf: !!!
i honestly don't understand how! i mean, i have to turn up the bass constantly when attempting to beatmatch... now i read somewhere that you should allow 80-100 hours of break in and that only then will the bass start to come through and the headphones will show their worth... i guess i'll just have to wait and see... i think i have about 30 hrs on these right now... |

No problem. Again, I must emphasize that you should really decide for yourself what you would rather want. List your priorities and weigh them yourself. If in the end you decide that the looks of the V700 is a large factor (they would work better in a club environment for example) and if you are willing to sacrifice some of the sound quality, then go with the V700's. (And if you're willing to put up with the $$$, etc.)
I'm really not trying to tell you to pick one headphone over the other. I mean, even if the V700 is not right for me doesn't mean that it's not right for someone else (as hard as that may seem to some).
It's your decision, your life. Everyone else can only give you advice, nothing more. :D |

Actually, you and TranceLuver4evr are both correct. Sennheiser designs most of its headphones in Germany, but manufactures most of its higher-end headphones in Ireland. |

JayD, I can't make your decision *FOR* you--you must weigh the pro's and cons of each, and decide for yourself...
Why not give us some information on the specific details of what you want and what is not important to you in headphones?? |

Hey,
Well I wasnt really asking for anyone to make a decision for me, not at all. Heh, may-b it came off as that, but anywayz. Again thanks for the help from you guys.
I asked for help cause the other day I went to take a look at the headphones and I was stuck between the MDR-V700 & the V-6's. Now I am pretty sure that I am going with the V-6's, not because anyone told me to, it took a while to decide myself. The V-700's did sound a little bit more "bassier" to me, although from everyone I've asked they all said the same thing "there exagerrated bass" also I have heard this from my own ears. From the begining I heard the same thing, the V-6's have alot better sound quality & again, I tested both out and saw that. So just to make sure I wanted to ask before I spent the money. Its alwayz good too. Again, thanks for all the help.

| I'm very glad that you made the decision on your own. Most people get "convinced" in one way or another. :toothless |

dvd, the Sennheiser HD 280 PROs need to be run-in (burn-in) with music playing through them for at least 40 hours. Only then should you judge their sound quality. As for the plastic feeling cheap, the plastic on the Sony MDR-V700DJs actually feels cheaper - that plastic is very brittle compared to the relatively soft plastic on the Senns. |
