Now, how about upgrading your sources and amp? And once you hear that upgrade with your HD580's, you'll never go back to cheap, crappy supermarket electronics!

Yes, a new sound card and amp are next to buy. I'm all ears!

Without going in to a huge thread discussion, are there one or two sound cards you audiophiles like that are under $300? I'm assuming the Creative Audigy2 would at the top of the supermarket electronics list, so what lesser known cards do people like?

Since you are in Europe, look for headphones by Sennheiser, AKG, or Beyerdynamic...

From whut i've read, you can get the M-Audio Audio Audiophile 2496 for 150 bucks

Ok... Was mixing today when all of a sudden the bass on my HDJ-1000's totally cut off. After a few seconds it came back again but only to cut off a short time after and so on.
Is this random variation in bass a common problem? I've had the headphones for about 7 months now - and the average use of them is only about 2-3 hours a WEEK, in my bedroom, and is VERY carefully looked after.
Blah... now I'll have to ring them up tomorrow and get it repaired under warranty - though I'd rather much get it replaced with a new one [is that possible?].

But I must admit that they are great - sound is warm, and the mid-range is very good.

i love these guys. im sorry

they get mad negative ciritcism, but i think its a little bit of a bandwagon and no one will admit it. ive used many types of cans and thse are quite a good set of cheap phones what hold there own. not too big, not to small.

i even saw Dj mason performing with them on his head, and if he was being paid by sony, wouldnt he at least use the v700s?

Well... the thing is, the V500DJ's are cheap, flimsy plastic... wouldn't pay $20 for them... cause, really, for $20, you could at least get some Sennheiser's or something... and remember, the MDR-V6 can be had for like, $65 if you look around? Also, I tried the V700DJ's recently... and I now can definitively ask you fans of it, "ARE YOU GUYS OUT OF YOUR MIND?"??

Uncomfy... plasticy... badly fitting...badly built...overly heavy... and generally badly designed. Really, is being able to listen to it with one ear with your shoulder holding the headphone up worth that much? O_o

I mean, even at Guitar Center, I found the MDR-7506 for $100... go there, ask them to let you try it out, have them plug it into a mixer and turn all of the (inevitably on) EQ's off... O_o you'll be blown away if you are used to the V500DJ's or V700DJ's...

Before the HD280's, I was using these. If you haven't heard a set of good sounding cans before, these will sound fine. However, it was pretty tough to beatmatch with them cuz the sound quality sucks. Cheap?? I think not... I paid the same amount for my HD280's. Its definitely not a bandwagon. Let's face it. They do suck

Hi. New here.

As a hardcore Head-Fi member I can help out with recommendations and what have you, but my perspective is as a listener from portable devices which is I imagine very different to DJing. If I were to know what sort of sonic characteristics DJ's wanted, then I'd probably be in a position to offer some useful pointers.

I've owned the Sony MDR-V700DJ / Pioneer HDJ-1000 / Panasonic RP-DJ1210 / Sennheiser HD280Pro / Sennheiser HD25-1 / Beyerdynamic DT250-80 / Ultrasone HFI-650 among 50+ other phones. And I've had those phones (in quite a few cases, more than once) mostly in overlapping groups so I've had the chance to make quite a few direct comparisons.

P.S.: Hi MERTON :D

I see your point, but the headphone you choose will depend on the type of application you will use it for. Do the same test in a loud club with loud screaming monitors in your face... all that hi-fi quality goes to shiet... that’s why the 700s are DJ headphones and 7506s studio headphones.

Bangraman - how are the Sennheiser HD280 in comparison to the HD25?

(I Have HD280)
bangraman
The 280's have an overall softer presentation. The HD25-1 sounds more incisive, aggressive with a pronounced treble and also with a kicking bass in comparison.

It seals about the same initially, but I think the HD25-1 maintains a comfortable (as far as supraaural phones go), consistent seal for a longer time. The HD280 rubber headband tends to lose tension after a while, and also with such a huge mass of rubber there's a lot of weight up there.

The left (I seem to remember) earcup swing fore/aft a little on the HD25-1 to afford single-eared monitoring. The HD25-1 is also right-side-cabled.

The 25 is lighter, punches harder and is most probably more durable. A better phone generally all around. Are there any specifics you want to know? Especially since no-one's answered my question as to what DJ's look for.
