yes, they're great for studio monitoring, but they're just too weak for a club environment... even though the block out a lot, that alone is not enough when you're one ear monitoring... the bass at one club i was working at, was so overpowering, that even though i had these headphones on both ears, the bass from the main speakers was overpowering the bass of these headphones...

gluegun, take your cans to a concert or something, stand beside a speaker and test out these cans...
Gluegun
Tranceaddict, the quality control of these cans is shaky.... i think there have been a few revisions. Ask the other people who have the 280's here, they work FINE.
TranceGeek
ok, i'd like to ask them

who else here has these cans?
Gluegun
Why not do a search??

Sorry for another stupid question, but whats the difference between open and closed headphones?
ShadySlim
enak, open headphones do sound "airier" than closed headphones. No doubt. But that sound quality won't do you any good when you're trying to DJ; open headphones don't block out any external noises at all. So if the conditions are (un)favourable, the sound from that f**king monitor speaker will COMPLETELY overpower any sound that comes out of those open headphones.

Closed headphones block out external noises (to varying degrees), but the soundstage will suffer. And once again, many have so many resonances that the club's F'ing monitor speaker will overpower the bass on those.

Shadyslim is trying to be macho by cursing. Aren't ya, Shady?

Anyway, Open blocks no noise, closed does block noise..

I'm not trying to curse; I'm only trying to point out the pros and cons of both types of headphones. And the DJ equipment at most nightclubs tend to be set up so that the monitor speaker is blasting so loudly that its sound tends to overpower much of the sound of most headphones.

Well, im gonna use em at home at the computer, so will open headphones like the 890 be good then, ambient noise isnt to loud, and i know how big the 890's are. I wont be Dj'ing at all!:p

What would u recommend?
Gluegun
In Australia, where you can get the 890's incredibly cheap, and everything else is overpriced? Yea, get the 890's....

enak
Thanks gluegun :D
