Sony - Sony MDR-7506's

What was I thinking. So the Technics DJ-1210s or these sonys.
See I figured that Technics seem to have the DJ scene fairly well covered so they would know what they are doin. Sony are always reliable but dont really specialise so I wasnt sure what they would be like. But what would you recomend now?

The 7506's is the same as the MDR-V6...

If you want swivel, get the technics. If you want a better-sounding set of headphones, get the 7506's...

The 7506's are *THE* studio headphones, bub, and they work just dandy for DJing..

You will find many here who adore the MDR-V6/MDR-7506, and with good reason--they have a lot going for them...

But, do you need side swivel?

And please, can the stuff like, "Sony are always reliable"... it's not true.... the MDR-V700DJ is a case in point (not reliable). You buy headphones by MODEL NUMBER, *NOT* by company! For example, as far as reliability goes, the 7506 is basically unbeaten, and the v700dj is pitiful. Everyone tends to make bad headphones, and most tend to make good ones as well!

What if all the dj headphones where the same price...
would the hd-25 be better than the v-6?

Also to get an idea... do these phones sound anything like the denon AHD-550's?

I heard the 550's got s ome decent reviews, but the AHD-950 is more similar in sound to the MDR-V6...

The HD25 is a smallish, slightly overpriced, very dj-oriented headphone... it has all of the side swivel stuff and a *slight* amount of boominess. The V6, while it is easy to drive and is also known as being an 'ear subwoofer', doesn't have the many ways of folding as the HD25, and is also known to be less boomy than the HD25.

Yea, the pads make it circumaural instead of supraural, and they make them MUCH comfier...

The pads are originally made for the DT250 headphones, which probably sound the best of all the headphones I mention... those don't fold tho..

You are looking for the "Velour" version of the earpads for the "DT250" headphones. Should be $17 + $5 S&H.

I've looked through and all the talk is about the best headphones....

I just spent most of my money on 1200s and my mixer and I don't want to fork out like $200 (CAD) on my first pair of headphones....

I was wondering what are some good heaphones to start out with, I still want them to be decent, but not necessarily top of the line!

or should i be more patient and get a really good pair? I currently dont have headfones, just 2 TTs and a mixer!

any ideas?!

thanks!

gho
I´ve got a MDR-V6 with a broken "driver". Meaning that the right phone went dead.
I´ve checked it with a voltimeter and it is not a problem of any of the wires, the current is reaching the phone but no sound is coming off. So that can only mean the driver is broken.
So does any one know where can I buy the spare pot on the internet or the name of the pot????

Thanks

Well, regarding on whether you should get some decent "starting" headphones now or save up for "really good" ones depends on your personal preferences.

I'll suggest an alternative, however, that reconciles both views! If you noticed in this thread, the two main headphones recommended for DJ's are the Sony MDR-V6 and the Sennheiser HD-280 Pro (I own a pair of the latter).

For price/performance, I would suggest you get the Sony MDR-V6. They're great for DJ'ing, with adequate isolation and amazing sound. They'll last you a long time as well, and are only about $50-60 U.S., depending on where you get them.

As for the Sennheiser HD-280's, they have full swivel features and have a bit more isolation than the V6's, which is why I got them (well, one of the reasons why, actually). But they're a bit more expensive - $80-90 U.S. or so, roughly speaking.

So it's up to you. Of course, perhaps Gluegun will have more to say on this.
