So basically from what I read the Sennheiser HD-280Pro and Pioneer HDJ-1000 seem to be pretty high preference. Lots of negatives on Sony's and others. Which of these two would you vote for?

When I get them it will probably be the Sennheiser 280s.

Personally I'd go with the Pioneer HDJ-1000, I've got a pair and I love them. I've tried the Technics and Sony's and I didn't like them as much. The Sony soudn quality wasn't as great and the folding joints are weak compared to the Pioneer, these things are built to last. The Technics provide good sound but I wish the ear cup was a bit bigger and actually enclosed your ear like the Pioneer's do, which provides for better sound isolation(in terms of unwanted sounds leaking in, like at a club, you don't want to hear anything else other than the track you're trying to cue in). As for sound quality, the Pioneers are great, I can turn up the the headphone level on my DJM600 to max without any distortion on the headphones, mind you no one would listen to music at this level I did it just to test them out.

its impossible to part me from my pioneers

I just bought the AKG 401 headphones and I'm simply blown away. What a quality :eyes: Makes you fall in love again with music u'd been tired listening to.

Good for you. But I'd also recommend a good dedicated headphone amp for use with those AKG K401's. Your ears will thank you for it.

And once you get that amp, you'll then realise that your source(s) are mediocre or crappy. (There goes the wallet!)

What are you plugging your headphones into?

How high quality is it?

What are you playing through them? CD's, mp3's, your vinyls?

Have you thought of buying a dedicated headphone amp to make your headphones sound better? The AKG K401's need one to sound good.

What's a dedicated amp?
Help! I just listen to my cd's, that's all! I'm no expert, just wanna enjoy my music :( So you say that the wonderful quality I experience can even be enhanced, or what?

the 401s are not very efficiant headphones. this means most sources (cd player, discman, amp) will not give them the power required to sound their best. You may also find them quieter than other headphones. To fix this problem you can buy a headphone amplifier.

Most headphone amplifiers are not produced by big companies, and if they are, they are usually pretty expensive ($500+ range). So, you get alot of people building their own amplifiers. This results in products like the META42 and CMOY, which are not sold by companies, but some people online sell their homemade versions.

I built a CMoy headphone amp from scratch for $170.00 CND. this is alittle expensive, because I invested in a soldering iron, DMM, and all necessary equipment. You can find CMoys for sale for less than 100 CND. Of course the more expensive the amp, the better your sound quality will be (for the most part ;) )

If you are interested in buying an amp, check out http://www4.head-fi.org/forums/foru...p?s=&forumid=14

I have the 401s, and their sound is improved alot with my little cmoy.

thanks for the info, i finally know what you're talking about. I just couldnt imagine that the differnce would be so significant :conf: Well I found this amp on ebay, can u tell me if its worth it?
DJ Chrono
I've never heard of that amp actually. If you want any more info about amps you can ask questions here. These people know what they're talking about.
