True, that's why I mention this.

If you need all the side swivelling, get the HD25.

If having only up swivelling is okay, get the Sony MDR-V6.

If you dont care about swiveling at all, get the Beyerdynamic DT250-80's.

If you will only be plugging them into something that has a good amount of power, and don't care about any swivelling at all, get the Beyerdynamic DT250-250's.

HOWEVER...

All of these headphones are marketed at DJ's. All of them. They all clamp, they all can be used for handless one-eared monitoring (you just put one transducer behind your ear, for example, and they will stay), and they are all built like tanks...they are also all not HUGE headphones, and I believe all of them have one-sided cords..all of them are easy to power...

Just figure out how much folding you *need*, and then buy.. Yes, I care about sound quality, but I also know at least a *little* about DJ needs. Ever wonder why I never recommended my headphones, the Beyerdynamic DT831's, some of the best closed headphoens on the planet? Some of the best *studio monitoring* headphones on the planet (I saw a professor at a Chicago university, a guy who spends time running the sound systems for bands like Dave Matthews, Aerosmith, etc. using the DT831's...he was on the mixing board at a small band because he wanted to keep his feet in the ground, and felt he was losing touch with the reality of audio when he did the stuff for bands with so many resources...) So, why don't I recommend those? They are too big for comfortable, extended one eared monitoring, they are way too big *period*, and they can't be powered by just whatever. So, while they would be perfect for about any other professional audio work on the planet, they wouldn't be great for you all...

Well, regardless, I want to say that headphones are a very personal thing, and different people have different shaped heads, and different DJ's prefer to wear their headphones different ways for different tasks, and, everyone has ears that are shapped differently, and everyone may like a different type of fit...

So, ultimately, it is something that works for you. If that is the Sennheiser HD25', or the Technics RPDJ1200's, or the IXOS MoS DJ1001's, than so be it. I can only offer advice, and knowledge--knowledge that is ultimately not based off of personal experience in the "DJ" realm, I am sad to say. So, therefore, take it or leave it, but always take it with a grain of salt.

that's why your best bet is to go into your local store and try out the headphones yourself, think about the volume levels you'll need them for, and what you're wanting to hear... find those that give you those qualities... or a raging hard-on :P *LOL*
Gluegun
I consider shockwav to be half-right. Most local stores don't carry all of these headphones... they mostly carry just crappy ones. *I* suggest you do a little online research (ie, here or at head-fi), and then try to find places to demo the headphones you heard about online!

Shockwav in practice that sounds great, but unless you're in the US (& possibly the UK) it is extremely rare to find a shop that carries a wide variety of *decent* DJ headphones and that have them on demo.

I've been in contact with Sony officially here in South Africa and they don't bring in any headphones other than the standard lot used to listen to walkman and discman. They *might* bring in the MDR-7000 in the future, like that even helps me!!!!!

Looks like I'll be buying V6's over the internet. I'd love to listen to them first though, but ....

Thanx a lot! Toa all who've posted... I knew nothing about HeadPhones before...

Well, oDrori, if you wanna find out about headphones in general, just spend some time in www.headwize.com and www.head-fi.org, and, be sure to read that one introductory article on headwize for some generic info! Also, spend some time reading www.headphone.com, cause they're a great company...

Ok, i'm waiting for a lot of comments, but I have a sony MDR-V700dj headphone, and i like it. It isolates very good, and on my mixer it sounds superb. (dateq LPM 7.3, 2x0.5W headphone amp @ 4-32 ohm). The bass also sounds very accurate, and you won't have the sony on your head with full volume. But let me make my idea clear: for dj-ing you need a good isolated headphone, with some power, and I used several headphones, and i can work with all those things. I just liked the sony better, because it fit's better on my head.

I personally can not stand the sony MDR-V700 ... it just folds too awkwardly and doesn't sit on my ears properly ... not to mention it being WAY too heavy. Other people seem to love them though - just shows how subjective the choice of a DJ headphone is.

V700DJ bass...Accurate??

*falls over laughing*

Anyways, most people like the V700DJ until they try the MDR-V6 or (if they absolutely NEED the side folding) the more expensive and worse valued Sennheiser HD25...

Hell, read this earlier thread...
http://www.tranceaddict.com/forums/...&threadid=26239

Anyways, just *try* the V6....

Heck, look at this intelligent person's (from this forum) view of some headphones...

/me takes everyones advice & decides to buy a pair of V6s.
/me discovers:

1) Sony doesn't bring that model into this country (South Africa) :conf"
2) All the stores so far, don't ship overseas.

I NEED A STORE THAT WILL SHIP V6s TO INTERNATIONAL ADDRESSES !!!!!
