would oaky, tiesto, AVB, PVD and so on use headphones that were crap? no probly not.

would they want to have the "best" stuff? yes they probaly would. hell wouldnt you if you erned that much money?

Well, if those were bonafide DJ headphones, then no one should consider any of them "CRAP" without even trying them for their intended purpose. And then, if an experienced DJ uses one of those, and either he feels that the mixes that he has made with a particular DJ headphone weren't good enough or the critics or audience has panned the mixes that he has made with that particular headphone, then one can say that the particular headphone doesn't work well for him.

should i go with SENNHEISER of PIO HDJ-1000s for dj headphones
vhx1
I would go with the Sennheissers but you should go to a store and take a listen to both. Based on sound quality, the sennheisser is superior. But if you want the swiveling action, you mite wanna check out the HDJ

hi everyone i am willing to hear recommedations about good headphones
that answer those charisteristics:
high range frequency response
and good sensitivity about 100 decibels

i dont care about isolation of the headphones

my budget is between 100 to 120$ include shipping

i enquired about sony mdr v700 and i have found one guy that wants to sell his in 50$ but i'd decided not to buy them because they are very gentle and can break easly

i heard about those types of headphones

technics rp dj 1200
pioneer hdj1000
sennhieser

which one sould i buy with my budget
or where i can find them in "second hand " products

thanks eitan

hey eaton, i have the sennheiser hd280 pros, and while i have yet to use them in a long set, or much of a set at all, there great as lisenting phones as well, more bang for the buck
Gluegun
Well all you HD280 guys, and anyone who WOULD get them but is worried about the bass...

check this out..

If you are trying to decide between the HDJ 1000's or the Senheiser HD 280's I'd go with Sen's. I have both, and love both. But for duration of wear and overall comfort, Sen's win. Go to Guitar Center and try both out. If you can afford it I would suggest even jumping up to the HD 25's.

WHen i compared the two, HDJ's sounded like crap compared to HD280

yeah it would help for a new pair of hd280, but since i've owned mine for over a year they seem to have broken in and sound very nice.

Not really... if your headphone jack is also gold plated, you might get a better connection with the gold plating, ie, if you rotate the headphone plug in the socket, it wont make any noise... but how often are ya going to be doing that? Essentially, the two headphones sound the same...

Actully the gold plating has nothing to do with a better connection.

Resistivity of various materials in ohm-centimeters.
p @ 20 C
Silver 1.645E-6
Copper 1.723E-6
Gold 2.443E-6
Aluminum 2.825E-6
Tungsten 5.485E-6
Nickel 7.811E-6
Iron 12.299E-6
Tantalum 15.54E-6
Nichrome 99.72E-6
Tin Oxide 250E-6
Carbon 3.500E-3

smaller numbers indicate less resistance

We can see from the above table that gold is actually a poor conductor compared to Copper and Silver.

The diffrence in conductance between Aluminum and Gold is minor:

Gold G = 409.33kS per cubic cm.
Aluminim G = 354.61kS per cubic cm.

Indicating that the only real advantage of gold tiped connectors is shiny metal. and reduced oxidation of the connectors.

You will always get the best connection with gold.

All of the other "good" conductive metals will oxidise in normal air. This will happen much more rapidly when two different metals are in contact with each other.

The cheaper connectors will be Nichrome (I think) not aluminium as aluminium will oxidise very quickly. Some manufacturers will paint Nichrome connectors gold colour to suck buyers in.

Gold is 40 times more conductive than Nichrome.

Got my new headphones today

Comparing between the following at the store
Ultrasone HFI-500 DJ1
Sony MDR-7506
AGK 271S

The sony and agk headphone had been burnt in but the ultrasones were straight out of the box.

The sony had good punch but muddy highs and lows. rolled off early at both extreems.

The agks were way too laid back. they had excellent sound but it was boring and lacked punch. they were extreemly comfy too.

the ultrasones were great they have heaps of clarity. they reduce the ambient sound more than the other two. the sound is similar to the sony headphones ie bright. but they dont sound as bright when listening to them because the highs are crystal clear and the bass is defined and very very deep.

one of the cds i used for the comparison was of a band that when i saw live i rushed out the next day to buy their cd. they are a 3 piece and they play electronic funk with huge bass (very unique sound and hard to describe). the sound from the sonys wasnt very realistic. the agks sounded like they were playing in a recording studio and the ultrasones sounded like they did when i heard them live (great!).

the ultrasones are heavier and have large ear cups. the ultrasone went the loudest of the 3 i tested by far. the headphone was driven from a pioneer proaudio stand alone cd burner.

the ultrasones also sounded similar to the dynaudio monitors at the store compared to krk and other brands.

the "natural surround" on the ultrasones is great for making you think you are in the middle of the dance floor but still sounds like headphones when listening to a live band. its also weird when doing one ear mointoring/cuing.

So as you probly guessed i got the ultrasones.

Ultrasone HFI-500 DJ1
good:
Sound is great for dj-ing and listening to electronic music
Folding design
very loud
great ambient noise reduction
bass
they stick to your head very well
coiled cord
ears fit inside the earcups easily

bad:
one ear monitoring is a little strange
heavy

will give you guys another review when they burn in or if i get my hands on some 280PRO's for a comparison

later,
Con
