I found myself in exactly the same situation after playing in a club. In the end i tried a pair of Technics RPDJ1210's and loved them. There were also cheaper then both the HD25 and Sony's. The HD25's sound wise are very good but i don't think they are worth the extra $$ over the Technics.

i've wanted to ask for your help about a headphone situation...:
i have the sennheiser 280 for about 3 months and i think they are really great for listening and djing at my room and other that kind of crap.
i've recently played in a club and i could hardly hear the beats through my headphones, even though the levels of the cue where high, i could hear that the sound starts to distort in my headphones but i couldn't hear the beats well.
i've decided to purchase another pair, but i have a budget problem since headphones in Israel cost way much higher than in other places...
so these are my options:
Sony MDRV 700 Dj - Crappiest option
Sennheiser HD-25Sp (is that the cheaper model ???)
Technics RPDJ1200/1210.
Which One's the best ???? i've heard that the technics are great and seen many dj's here using them...
i've also used the Hd-25sp and they are superb...
help me choose please !!! |

Meh, the MDRV700DJ is just plain ordinary in sound quality to my ears. :p |

| Hey Gluegun, would you recommend Stanton's DJ Pro 2000S headphones for DJ use? Any opinion on those at all? |
|
|
| Gluegun |
The higher-end stanton DJ headphones are pretty unknown on headwize or head-fi...
I haven't seen any comprehensive comparisons of some of the new, less-popular DJ models, though I would appreciate someone buying and comparing some... |

I was interested in picking up a good pair of headphones that I can use for Studio Monitoring, aswell as a little pleasure listening.
So, I did some research on the internet, and this is what I came up with:
Grado
All the Grado Prestige series phones(60/80/125/225/325)seem to be too bright, very high trebel, and a punching bass. Good for extreem clarity, but tiring to listen to, and it colours the sound considerably. Also it seems that they are very uncomfortable to wear.
The Reference series are alot better, but they are VERY expensive!
Sennheisers
The Sennheisers seem to be unbeatable in the 580-600 range, but they are also very expensive. Lower models are decent, but not spectacular. The Sennheiser Orpheus is the best pair of headphones you can buy, but it has a price tag alittle out of my reach :D
Sony
People have been praising the Sony V6's aswell, but as a budget headphone under $100. There are many other phones that sound better than these, but with a higher price tag.
AKG
I was considering buying the AKG K-270 S studio monitors, but I have read many mixed reviews. A fair amount of people really liked these, while some very much disliked them. I steered away from them because of that, and because they have a somewhat heafty price.
Finally the AKG K-401 was heavily praised by every review I found. They are comparable to the Sennhieser 580 in terms of sound quality, very comfortable, and only list for $208.00 USD. Very well rounded "warm" frequency response and sound, without adding hardly any colour (making them good for a fairly cheap pair of monitors).
And not to mention I found a new pair on ebay for $106.00 :happy2:
The K-501 were also a possibility, but they were noted to have a weaker bass response than the 401s.. and more expensive, so I avoided them.
Conclusion
I'll wait for my pair of AKG K-401 in the mail, give them a listen, and I'll review them after the break in period of about 30 hours of listening. |

| Sony MDR-V700 is the one and only... buy them its very good sound, the hole register from hi to lo frek. |

| 700's arn't really that good. they tend to break easily, their uncomfortable for prolonged use, and their sound isnt spectacular. |
