I have the HD 280 which I find good for mixing (although not a lot of bass) - now being repaired under warranty for the second time (end of 2 year warranty period). The ends of the headband crack and break off. I hope they have upgraded the replacement parts to be stronger, will report back in 2 or 3 weeks. If they use the same parts as before I'll just tape them up and use them for backup and get Sony 7506 (also called MDR-V6) as many DJs have reported these sound good, are strong, and reasonable price.

I had a look,

I guess the reality is that you don't know until you try them out, but is there anywhere in that site where u can find out the price?

From my knowledge, studio headphones don't necessarily link to being good DJ headphones. Studio headphones are often open (supra-aural??????), not closed like DJ headphones. So what's a good studio headphones isn't necessarily good DJ headphones... The most important thing for DJ heapdhones is bass response and blocking out of external noise. Studio headphones is meant for general all-out quality.

I guess as a Dj i wouldn't be focussing too muhc on quality, as long as the headphone is loud and has good bass respons, and can block out sound well. LOL, assuming i'm not stinking rich.

If you have bought headphones that are notorious for cracking up of their headband, maybe you coud try layering them up really tightly with black globe. 2-3 layers of tighty wrapped globe tape should do the job of preventing stress fractures in the headband.

I think.....

You can find good prices on lots of stuff from web dealers by going to http://shopping.yahoo.com and type in the name of what you're looking for.

Those Senn HD280 and HD215 are both closed design, circumnaural (surround the ear for good isolation). I think the 280 is really a studio design but Senn likes to say it is for DJs too which is stretching it. The 215 they claim is very sturdy and about the same price so I'm thinking they are pretty well the same audio-wise as the 280 but physically stronger. I've seen some comments on the 215 saying the bass is not a lot, same as the 280, they both have rather flat frequency response, not a lot of bass is perceived on these phones by most people in comparison to the Sony MDR-V700 which is boomy (has extra bass). Personally I find the unboosted bass of the Senn is good for doing accurate beatmatching but not much fun for just general listening.

HMm... it's interesting you should say that....

I have a friend who has Senn 212s, and he basiclly said the bass is nuts. I've also read reviews complaining that the headphones have bass which is too overpowering.

I guess that'd be a good thing if you're in a loud club.

Hmmm - well it looks like Senn has designed the 212 for increased bass, here's a quote from their site:

"The HD 212Pro closed dynamic hi-fi stereo headphones have a balanced sound image with a slight emphasis on the bass response. DJs will like their excellent attenuation of ambient noise and the soft, comfortable ear pads."

Hey guys,

Has anybody had any experience with Technics rp-dh1200's? Aside from the usual cracking that seems to plague these types of headphones, just wondering how they fair in terms of sound quality and comfort.

Thanks in advance

I have to admit that the quality of the sound is excellent. But besides the "cracking" problem the black ear cups harden after a while (not plesant feeling to the skin) and start cracking as well.

Wow. what an old thread. maybe I should be here for a last bit...

anyway, if you all want CURRENT information on DJing headphones, I would call or email headroom, and see what they suggest out of this list:

http://www.headphone.com/products/h...oise-canceling/

They would probably suggest one of the many ultrasone headphones, or the sennheiser hd25... but, ya, lots of headphones have come out since I spent time on this forum...

I received my Sennheiser HD280 headphones back from the second warranty repair, since they're almost 2 years old that is the last free repair.

I was hoping they upgraded the parts to heavier plastic but no, they used the same type of parts, so it's just a matter of a few weeks before the cracks appear again, and the last inch of the band starts to break off, bit by bit. Probably they would last better if I didn't need to extend the cups an inch out of the band, that seems to stress them more.

So I'm gonna tape up the ends (area where cracks shown in image) to slow down the cracking and hold the parts together even if they do crack. I'm undecided as to which type of tape to use, duct tape or fibergass tape is strong and stiff and is quite sticky which will reduce bending of the plastic, which might be good or bad. Electrical tape is softer and more flexible, and not quite as sticky and would allow the band to flex more.

I could also wrap the ends of the headband in layers of fiberlass cloth and composite resin (like a fiberglas boat) to make it super strong, but it might be unrepairable then, especially if I cover up the screw holes.

***UPDATE*** I taped them up with several layers of black electrical tape, since it is flexible and narrow (3/4 inch) it wraps nicely around the curved surfaces of the headband. Duct tape and similar is not stretchy and is much wider (2 inches) so you get big wrinkles meaning you have a loose fit and the tape is not strengthening the plastic.

I might as well keep the 280s since they're not worth much used even though like new now. I could also get some Sony 7506 phones and keep the HD280 for backup.

Wow I didn't read through all the 72 pages but from what i've seen, people have been having problems with their headphones cracking. I am in the market for headphones and i am looking for something that surpresses sound almost completely so i don't have to crank up the volume on my headphones in order to beatmatch. Also I have the HP-700's and they are awesome but since i made one of the drivers lose by throwing the headphones to the floor i am looking for new ones because i want superior equipment.

Here is a review for the headphones:

http://www.djzone.net/pg/reviews/ge...00-review.shtml

I got mine for 60 bucks cash and they are really loud. I prefer them to the Sony MDRV700DJ. I have had my hp's for a year and no cracking no nothing i must admit this headphones are pretty sweet and don't regret buying them.

Does anybody have problems with the top of the lines statons and pioneers?
