Gluegun, may I enlist your services once again?
I need a small pair of headphones... very light, for use with my portable cd and minidisc players. I want something that sounds good all over the frequency range, and is very clear, etc... what's good? |

Michael, do you want it to block out outside noise, or not? I would suggest not, but if you need it to...
What is your price range, in USD, before budgeting stuff for shipping and taxes and such? Like, for the headphones *themselves*? What about for everything total, after shipping? You are in Canada, right?
Bachatu, glad to hear that you are satisfied; it's good to get more people telling their exact experiences here. :) :)
And DJ Steve, gonna take my offer to talk any time soon? |

One is for sure : if you want to show me how good they are, show me pics with famous djs that wear them on their heads! And I am sure that I have more photos with the 700's...
Greets... |
hahahahahahaha!!! :haha: :haha: :clown: it's not cool being so judgemental..
anyway i just got my v700's back from the sony store (yay, i think?) and they replaced both swivels (i'm glad they noticed the crack on the other swivel as well) as well as the headband. essentially they are new headphones except for the cups and the cord.
trying them on again (after a month of non-stop sennheiser hd-280 pro goodness) i found them to be really quite bad comfort-wise and sound-wise. i don't know why i'm repeating this again as i've said this stuff many times, and i'm sure a few times in this thread itself... i can never go back to sony's (unless it's the v6/7506).
edit: even then i wouldn't use them for dj'ing because they don't have side-swivel and i use that a lot.
edit2: to tell the truth, it's very fun to dj with the v700's because of the way they are designed, it's so easy to pull up the cups and do one-eared monitoring. plus they look cool. :) |

Alccodde: So you are admitting that, yea, they are fun and look cool, but they don't have it where it counts, huh? Isn't that what everyone else has said? ;) ;)
Sounds like you need a set of HD25's or something, lol... if you like the ease of off and on sort of deal...
Remember, there is a headphone for everyone, but, IMO, the V700DJ's generally isn't it... |

hi'ya
i just wanted to say that i got my new HD280 headphones in on thursday. heres my quick review, just so you know up till know i've used some philips brand headphone (dont remember which) and the Sony v700
the first thing i absolutely loved about the 280's is their sheer confort, i love the padding and whats more it allows your earlobes not to be pressed down at all... as if they're swimming in an enclosed pool of sound. now the more i had it on the more i noticed how powerful its noise blocking was. i mean people would walk into my house and stand behind me and i wouldnt even hear them come in. when people talk to me while i have the headphones playing music, all i see is their lips move and no sound come out. the quality of sound on the 280's is great, very crisp and full-bodied, much better then any other headphones i've tried in my entire life. however, i noticed one small thing while DJ'ing with a full system at a club last night. I DJ with my headphones full on and use the mixer's pre-fader to beat match (hence me getting the 280's in the first place) but usually when you DJ at clubs i beat match with another element, my body... its kinda hard to explain but when i feel the vibrations of the bass coming out of the speakers i match that to my coming song, thats why i like a little bass thump kick from my headphones as to align the different bass's that my body feels... agian its hard to explain, but the v700's did a bit better at delivering that certain bass when in a loud club surrounding. this may even be my imagnation as i've only used them that once at the club.
overall the headphones i got KICK ASS!!! i love them and am very happy i bought them. great price too... thanks for that cheap site gluegun, and for recommending them in the first place, honestly its mostly cause of you i got them, thanks! |

haha gluegun i hope i didn't sound hypocritical!
i would use the v700's neither for casual listening nor for serious dj'ing, period. :D
Izzy - glad to hear you like the 280's.. :) |

No problem, I was just joshing ya! ;)
Izzy,
It sounds like you are used to concentrating on the physical FEEL of the bass from your headphones and from your ears to beatmatch. If you can, and with the extra isolation of the 280's, why not try and change your system to use the SOUND of the bass? Remember, this is what the 280's are great at -- giving a concise, accurate, tight, and defined sound of the bass.. you should be able to easily differentiate between two different types of bass hits by the sound of them alone with the 280's... just experiment with the new beatmatching styles open to you with these new tools, alright? |

first off, lets just lay some things down
I own a pair of 7506, I tested them vs the v700 and decided yea, they sound hella better. Which I will agree to. The 7506 sound great.
now last night, I had a little sketch party, and a friend brought over his v700. I used them, and to be perfectly honest, I found beatmatching a hella lot easier. Granted, im not a great Dj, and I was stoned and coming off me E high, but I honestly dont think that my ears were messed. Has anybody else found this? I didnt have the headphones turned up high, and I could barely hear the highs in the V700, but I could match a bass beat much easier. |

maybe you were experiencing the same thing i was when i DJ'ed with the v700's, something about feeling the bass better... i think i first clued in on this when gluegun mentioned that they were a bit strong on a certian bass freq that you can feel even if you lose your hearing... maybe its my imaginition.
gluegun, ya beatmatching at home is now so much easier with my 280's and ill have another opprotunity to spin the following weekend after this where i can test out DJ'ing with the 280's in a loud, high speaker output enviornment agian, it'll probably be much better now that i have the feel for them. |

Heh... yea, very accurate experiment there...:D :D
Anyway, like I said, teh V700DJ's have more *physically impacting* bass than the MDR-7506's or MDR-V6's...and they don't have as much in the highs, either... so if you have lost some hearing, and need, for some reason, to use the sense of TOUCH more than your sense of HEARING, than a headphone like the V700DJ's (such as those by Technics or IXOS, but still not the V700...) might be worth it. However, if you are of the mental ability to use your EARS to beat match (and you might have to retrain your ears), you should be able to use a higher quality, tighter-sounding headphone to get quicker matching. After all, if you can hear the differences in SOUND between the two beats, and the beats aren't stretched out into boominess, you will be more accurate...
But, yes, if you suffer from hearing loss, or you have already trained your mind to ONLY use your sense of touch, than some of the physically impacting headphones might be for you. Like I said, use the tools that you are most comfortable with, and know *why* ya use em. |
