I emailed Sennheiser Canada re my HD-280 headband problem and they say just send them in for warranty repair, and they will fix them even if I bought them in USA. :toocool:
If you have the 280's, check the inner headband surface below the padding for cracks. Mine has cracks on both sides, on the right side it looks like eventually the headband will break about one inch above the end. Also the plastic has chipped off where the sliding piece enters the headband. So the plastic is defective, or the band was not designed strong enough. I guess if nobody else has cracking, it is not a "design defect". |

| i dont really know about the sennheiser hd 280's coz i mainly use either hd 25 or hd 25s. when i first bought my hp's the adjustable headband wore out really quickly meaning my cups were very loose. i sent them into sennheiser(Australia) and they repaired them free of charge. this was just a manufactureing fault that was covered by warranty. the guys did a good job now my hp's are as good as new even though the repairs were about 5 months ago. |

Call your local Beyerdynamic distributor and ask for the Velour DT250 pads. |

Gluegun - thanks. will do tomorrow.
I bought MDR-V700DJ's just under 4 years ago - paid £139 for them, but they've had some fair use and lasted well. The swivel bracket did start to crack, but I noticed it and super glued a cable tie around it on both sides, which has held them perfectly for the past 3 years nearly. Always thought they were the best headphones I could have. Then I used some Sennheiser HD-25sp's and bought a pair the very next day for £99, but I got the HD-25 with the rigid headband. I used them for a while and thought they were great - the isolation was loads better, and my mixing seemed to get a big boost from using them. About a year ago, I picked up the Sony's again and have been using them ever since. They're just so much easier to DJ with than the Sennheisers. The bulky design seems to allow more control and makes them easier to move around. Now, the cushions are falling apart, the jack has broke, and the lead is a little dodgy and I've got some money left from presents, so I've just ordered the Sony MDR-7506's from reading this thread. They should be here tomorrow!
After calling several departments at Sony UK, it seems they don't want to sell pads for the V700. Anyone know somewhere that does? |

| Ok.. i bought Pioneer HDJ-1000 ... they are nice design.. i like the design... the Sounds its a bit Boomy.. like artificial sound... they are comfty but i just weared thems like 1 hour constanty and my ears putted Hot and tired.. I had before the Stanton Pro DJ 2000s .. and I can tell they are more comfortable.. i can wear thems for hours... and i can beatmatch easily then with the pioneers-.. well i guess ill have to adapt to the poioneer sound.. but i can tell now Why Tiesto Uses the Stantons ones.. not becouse Staton company pays him.. its becouse they are very comfty.. well.. Pioneers have more Isolation than stanton ... and my stanton starting to break in the hinges... like the mdvr700... |

| Its been almost a month with my HD280's. The sound keeps gettin better and better as i used them more. My only complaint is that the fit is a tiny bit tight and makes your ears sweat a little. HOwever, whut really matters is sound quality and I really like the sound on these things. My friend bought himself a pair of v700's and the exaggerated bass does make it a little easier to beatmatch with. But you can do much else cept beatmatch with the bass on those i think. With the HD280's, i am starting to understand how to beatmatch with the high hats and drum snares. All in all the HD280's are definitely a good buy |

My HD-280's are being repaired under warranty (I hope!) for the headband cracking problem so I borrowed some Denon AH-D550 'phones.
They are OK for casual listening and at first listen are more pleasant and have more bass than the 280's. But soon you realize they are no good for DJ work, the sound is murky and lacks the precision needed for quality control, beatmatching, and EQing. Not DJ phones at all, to be fair, but interesting as a comparison. Confirms to me that decent headphones are mandatory. |

What's your personal opinion on beatmatching with the high hats and drum snares? Other than the fact that you can use those at lower volumes, thereby saving your ears, do you think it is making your beatmatching faster and/or more accurate? What about other people who have switched from beatmatching with the bass to beatmatching with the high hats on quality headphones? Discuss. :) |
