It doesn't quite work like that, if people are willing to pay high price for the HD 25's then why would they lower the price, and overall company profit? |
i see your point, however if they concentrated on a single product, manufacturing costs would be reduced, and unit sales would increase if the cost was reduced, eg half the price might bring more than double the unit sales ( i say might coz who really knows). That would increase profits. |

that's crazy! sennheiser has got tons of different kind of products for different uses. if they focused only on HD25 they'd go bankrupt very soon. focusing on just one headphone makes no sense at all. and if they sold twice as much headphones for half the price they're selling now, i bet they'd be making a lot less money than what they're making now. so i don't see any point in what you're saying really!

We're talking headphones here, not the whole product range, obviously they wouldn't drop everything just for the HP's. i'm just saying why have so many different models that do the same thing when they could focus their energy on the best one, and make it more affordable in the market to more consumers. (Not just Senheiser , that is just the example I use).
if more people could afford it, then more units would sell, and by focusing on the one product, manufacturing costs would be minimsed.
This goes for all industry, but we do live in a consumerism world don't we. |

SO! I came in looking for recommendations, and ended up reading the whole thread! This is sort of a summary of my decision process.
I learned to DJ on a cheap Koss UR-20, which a friend bought for me to start out with a few years back. I recently lost them at an event, and it's probably good that I did, because I really needed to buy a better pair. One of the headband connections on the UR-20 had already broken on me too, though since it was such a cheap pair, I fixed myself by burning together the plastic where it had fissured. The Koss worked for beginner purposes, but I was overdue for something of a solid and reliable standard.
I want to spend less than $100, and will be using them for both DJing and at-home listening. My DJing is about to get more regular, so I'll be using them both in clubs and house-party type events. I want circumaural, so no HD25.
I've heard great things about the Ultrasone DJ1, and like how they look, but they're out of my price range.
The new Sennheiser HD215 seems to get a decent review, but are said to lack warmth. The "Tonka Truck" earphones also look rather clunky to me. I'm a little wary of anything marketed specifically to DJs.
In the battle between the HD280 and MDR-V6, I decided on the V6 because of longevity, reliability, and design. The reports of cracking in the HD280 frame don't give it bonus points, either. My only concern with the V6 is that some report it as a bit "tinny" at times, but it seems to get more approval than the HD280.
I also looked at the Sennheiser HD485 and HD497, though they don't seem to get much support from DJs, so I was left a bit in the dark about whether I should use either model for that purpose. |

I think I agree, Sennheiser seems to have too many models.
Maybe they're just trying to shake up the market with some new products? |

Good choice! When I got mine I was a bit concerned about them being a bit tinny, but after about 20 hours use they had burned in properly and now I lurrrve them. |

what does tinny means?
and at this point for DJ'ING are the V6's still the ones to get? |
