I have finally started using Sennheiser 25s (Not the SPs) and my verdict was uncertain at first. Partly because I had become accustomed to the sound that the Sony 700s give.
I took both pairs with me when I played a couple of dates in Sweden but at the end of the first night I had switched to the Sennheisers and didn't pick the Sonys back up again.

This is not to dismiss the Sonys outright as I have enjoyed some fine gigs using them and have achieved what I consider to be some of my best performances with them.
I will however be sticking to the Sennheisers from now on. They are much crisper and it's easier to get propper definition out of them. Admittedly still getting used to it. ;)

The other thing that really impressed me was the amount of sound they blocked out, which became especially useful as I had to do a gig the other night on the phones.
They are also damn lite, almost forgot I was wearing them and I didn't sweat as much around the ears either.

Nice!

Cheers

I'm lookin around for some new headphones. I've been using the MDR - V500s for years now and I always the thought the quality was good on these... until i started to mix. Its seems quite tough to match beats with them. WIth that in mind I've been lookin at the Seinheisser HD280 Pro, Sony MDR V700, Technics RPDJ1200, Pioneer HDJ-1000.

Right now i don't really want the pioneers cuz they are soo expensive. I've been readin some good reviews on the HD280's. I'm leanin towards these. I can buy the technics at my local store for 80 bucks but does anyone have any say on the quality of these cans?

Also got to hear the V6/7506 i think at my local record shop. I like the less boomy more accurrate bass. It sounds so much cleaner!

Stay away from the V700's... if you dont like the V500's, why would you like those? The whole lineup kinda sucks... Look at the HD280 Pro or the Sony MDR-V6 (not V600!) if you want a clearer sound... the Technics and Pioneers are more "traditional" DJ headphones..

It's an interesting experience, hearing a more defined, faster, clearer, more accurate sound, eh? Especially after you get used to the... ahhh, "character" ;) of the V500's or V700's...

Hold up a second... :D While I must say the Senn 25s are excellent headphones, I still think that the Sony 700s get an unfair review on this forum. The thing that annoys me the most with them is the durability issue. Other than that they have served me very well and taken me to places I wouldn't have immagined 2 years ago.

The thing I look for in headphones is volume and durabillity, sadly the Sony's couldn't deliver on the latter. Good isolation is also a factor which the Senns beat the Sonys in hands down. But they still work in a club environment which is something that a lot of headphones mentioned on this forum don't do.

I do have to hand it to you Gluegun, as you are correct about the accuracy. Something which actually took me a few days to get used to (Not that you were right but the accuracy ;) ).
The other thing that I have noticed is that if I have to use someone elses phones for any reason it usually throws me for six as anything else other than the Senns sounds like in my ears now.

What I would say to any young DJ out there is this... Headphones really do matter. It is worth getting really good quality phones as they will help you hear what you are doing in a more defined way.

What about the Sony 700s? Well, while they are still in my opinion a good choice for DJing, if you are investing in a set of headphones and want them to last for a longer period of time then avoid these.
Sennheisers may also break, but you can replace individual parts yourself at a cheaper cost than sending your phones to Sony who charge a ripoff £45 for the pleasure (That's about half the price of a new pair just to change a piece of plastic).

Be aware the Senns wont sound all that at first as they need to be worn in and this may take a while. Once that is done they will sound very good indeed.

You're in Europe. Get some AKG's... the K271 Pro's are a good beginner can. What have you tried, specifically? Sony makes lots of different styles, as does Sennheiser... have you tried the Sennheiser HD25's? Maybe try some IXOS MoS DJ1001 for some more "dj" type headphones..

OOOOO!!! I KNOW!! Go buy some Ultrasone's!! Those kick ass! Their entire lineup is good...

Here's a neato webpage...

OK so what do you guys think. Seinheiser HD280 Pro vs Sony MDR-V6/7506? Which one would u guys recommend.

I actually read a thread comparing these two on head-fi.org but it didn't really say much cuz the person wasn't djing with em

There's more than one thread on head-fi about them... and there are more headphones than that to choose... what do you plan on plugging them into? What venues do you plan to be taking them to? What sorts of headphone sounds are you used to? What is your maximum headphone budget? Ever consider "try before you buy"?

Im not a beginner- im a professional dj

list ive used in a pro capacity (not in chronological order)

Sony 500s
sony 700s
Sennheiser hd 200
Sennhesier Eh 1430
Sennheiser HD 280
Sennheiser HD25
sennheiser HD25Sp
technics 1210s

theres probably a few others- but those are the main ones

Sick of sennheisers- dont want another pair- i dont get on with them well
Dont like the technics- ear cups are too small
Love the sound of the sonys (700s are my fave phones ive used)- just the sodding reliablilty pisses me off- i currently use them and they have started cracking. Again.

I have a few on my list to try- we shall see.
