gibbo, don't suggest do-it-yourself repairs on any Sony headphone! Their wires are coated in some substance that renders DIY soldering extremely troublesome. The Sony headphones MUST be shipped back to Sony for such repairs; otherwise, the new DIY wiring repair job won't last at all. And given the astronomically high prices that Sony charges for repairs and labour, you're WAY better off buying a new pair of headphones (preferably not from Sony).

Yes to some degree what ur saying is true do it yourself repairs can be troublesome but i tell u now if u send them back under warranty u'll wait four weeks minimum to get them back if u take them to ur local electrician he should be able to do a proppa job without a massive wait however having not actually repaired a pair of sony headphones specifically i could be wrong but if ur electrician can't do it properly (providing he isn't a con man) he should be able to tell you then you can send them to sony to be repaired

Heh, I remember a few years back my friend bought those 700's. I remember them being so cool, and then breaking : P

Anywho I'm liking the HD 280's but don't know where I can buy the silver ones. Anyone have any luck finding them anywhere ?

I've been impressed with the MB Quart stuff I have in my car, and found through their website that they have headphones. The trouble is I can't find anyone who sells them here in the states. I'm prolly just looking in the wrong places : /
YuVaL
guys, what do u mean by "burning" the headphones?
maxavier
it's basically when you take all the Sony's put them in a pile and burn them : P
YuVaL
seriously guys...
Vortex_SA
like any other electric machinary, overloading it with power will probably destroy it... the same goes to headphones and speakers, when ur overloading them with more power then they can handle they will be ruined... the speakers are being torn apart and the same goes to headphones... thats burning :)
maxavier
heh, sorry about the sarcastic post : P

Any more info on HD280 Silvers or MB Quarts in US ?

then why burn them if it destroys them?!?!

It seems to me that when they say burning, they are not talking about burning voice coils. In car audio that is usually what ppl mean when they say burn.

From what I can tell though it seems to be a breaking in process, like a baseball glove : P I'm assuming that process is just leaving them on and active for a really long time.

Ghostface
Yep, it's the process of burning in - not burning.

Yeah, just like wearing anything in, takes 20-30 hours from memory. Gluegun will have the technical definition.
Gluegun
You mean I already *had* the technical definition. I think it's posted two pages back in this thread or so...
