Thanks, I have really been impressed with them after only using them for about 2 hours. The scratching is a bit digital with mp3s, but not so much regular cds (I don't scratch anyways). The pitch is very loose, but once you get used to it, it works out fine for long beatmatches. I'm really excited to be using these on top of my old tables now....

Just a quick question, how much were those dz1200's?

I do. They suck ass. Technics has no experience whatsoever in building CD players, which is what this product proves. If you want a REAL vinyl cd player, get a CDX. Those things are REALLY amazing.

I played with a lot of CD players... I test products. So far, here's my liking of professional CD players in the upper money range (in order):

1. Pioneer CDJ-1000MKII
2. Numark CDX
3. Denon DN-S5000
4. Technics SL-DZ1200

I'm surprised you rate the cdx so high. I assume you mix alot seeing as you're on this site, and when you tested the numark cdx im sure you realized that it can only be as accurate as 0.1. This is horrible when you consider that all of the other high end decks (and even a step down, like the dns3000) have 0.02.

Now before anybody gets annoyed, and accuses me of being a poor dj because i cannot mix with 0.1% I want to clear up that anybody can mix with 0.1, but its just not fun. For example if you were spinning techno on 4 players with 0.1, it would be horrid. As with 0.02, you can just set it, and forget it.
J:\Digital
I am assuming he rated it that high for the MANY other features that eh CDX has.... however you do have a point regarding the pitch... I thought they were pretty sweet CD players, however WAY to big for my taste... I would prefer one of the Denon's, or CDJ 800's... maybe 1000MK2's... I haven't seen enough on the Technics so really know whether I would like them... and there isn;t a store in town that has them on demo yet, so I can't even go look at them...

I dont want to make the cdx sound that bad. I think the cdx is an amazing player, because it pretty much delivers what turntabilists have been wanting for a couple of years. But as far as mixing is concerned, its hardly an option. It would sort of be like buying a giant cdj100.

Actually, I think you would be surprised at how well built they are and how well they handle. Most people that knock them have only seen them in a video or played on one at a music store. The fact is, with a 0.05% pitch adjustment it hangs out quite well with the Pioneer's 0.02% (which is at +/- 6%, vs technics +/- 8%). It is more than sufficient for beatmatching and long mixes. At any rate, for vinyl diehards like me, the Technics was the best route to take in order to make a comfortable transition to using CDs. Pioneers in my opinion are the front runner for a high quality, fine tuned CD player that doesn't cater to a vinyl-only type of audience.

Sorry dude but that's totally bull. I told you this deck has perfect vinyl emulation. If you say this player is not for mixing, you're practically saying vinyl isn't for mixing. This thing has the size of a turntable, so does it matter? If you're saying it's too big and I don't have that much space, then you're making sense. There are cheaper alternatives too you know, but this is definetly the one that perfectly feels like vinyl.

Take a look at DJ Firewire, apparantly this person knows what he uses.

For vinyl die-hards like you? You obviously haven't tried the CDX. One thing straigt: The Technics was built for perfect vinyl emulation. They did NOT succeed, e.g. the slipmat used sucks ass. If you want REAL vinyl emulation, try the CDX. If you haven't and you think that the Technics kicks ass, you should slap yourself in the face and head to your dealer to try the CDX :P.

This is why the cdx is not for mixing, as i have already stated it can only be as accurate as 0.1. This means even if you get them as accuratly beatmatched as possible you will still have to baby them with pitch bends. Sure, this doesnt matter if youre pulling off intro outro mixes, i guess, but try mixing techno on four decks, and tell me how effective it would be with 0.1 accuracy. After about 13 seconds they will go out of sync and youll have to bend them...constantly pampering 4 decks, or 3, or even 2 would leave little time for anything else.

Feel free to prove me wrong though, sounds like you own a store or something, so if you have such confidence in these decks set up quads of these and mix like liebing.

I did not say vinyl is not for mixing, so dont tell me im saying that. Vinyl is analog, its accuracy is only limited by what the smallest movement you can make with the slide is. I've heard different points of view on this, some say its close to 0.02, others say its more like 0.05. I think its somewhere in the middle. It doesnt matter though, the point is its NOT 0.1.
