I love my setup (cramped clutter > neat and tidy), but Im getting rid of the Denon DN-9000s and getting a pair of Pioneer CDJ800s instead. the 0.1% pitch increment on the denon isnt cutting it. other than that setback, the denon a beautifal piece of machinery - definitely the best dual CD player on the market... Im gonna miss the dual 15 second samplers, alpha track, mirror mix, built in effects (though I never used them cause the DJM3000 is an effects tank), and that great layout
Im sooo used to the Denon 9000s, its gonna take a while getting used to the Pioneer take on CD use. but all in all, a pair of CDJ800 is much better for prodj use than the denon 9000 - the main reason being the 0.5% pitch increments (the CDJ1000MK2 has 0.02% pitch increments, but its way out of my price range) |
You're going to trade in your Denon 9000 for 2 CDJ 800's??? That doesn't sound right to me... I would take the 9000 over 2 cdj800's any day...as for the .1% arguement... DO you really think the .05% difference will make a difference? I started DJing on (don't laugh) Gemini CDJ-1100's) and had no problem keeping beats matched... If those things could keep a beat matched, how can you not on the Denons... I now have Denon S3000's and they are the best investment I've made so far. Work just like my techs only better... They keep the beats matched no matter what pitch %'s I'm using (I use +-10% mostly) but it also has the option to use .02% increments if you really need it.
My suggestion is forget about the 800's and keep your 9000. But if you HAVE to get something with better increments get the S3000s. Plus they're cheaper than the Pioneer's. BUt ifyou really want to sell your 9000, PM me and maybe I'll add it to my setup.:D |

yeah there are some features that I will miss a lot on the Denon, especially the fact that its 19" - perfect for mounting, which I did. but they feel too much like toys, more than a piece of DJ equipment. really its all just buttons, there no physical manipulation, which is what I love about my technics. also, the 0.1% is really a big deal, and the 0.5% will make a big difference. its twice as accurate! 0.1% is really only good enough for beatmatching for about 30 seconds... then the tracks start to stray and you have to push or pull, and once your in that deep, its sometimes hard to decide whether to push or pull your track
as for getting the S3000s, I was interested in them for a while, but I plan to start club DJing in the near future and as I understand it, most clubs CDJ1000s/1000MK2s for their CD setup. I want to get used to the Pioneer setup, since the 800 and the 1000 are very similar
as for selling my 9000 to you, sorry, I already have a buyer :o |

Like every other cd player in the entire world then
No cd player has physical manipulation- regardless of whether it has a rotating platter- you still arent physically adjusting or manipulating in the same way as you would vinyl- its merely an emulation of that process. If it bothers you that much then adjust the pitch using the dial instead of the nudge buttons. Its all zeroes and ones at the end of the day (nem will know what im on about with that line ;))
As for the pitch accuracy- ive used all sorts of cd players in a professional capicity, from numark rack mounts, to denon 1800/2000/4000/9000 and have been able to mix and hold pitch on them fine (with the exception of the numark because it didnt want to read any cds  )

From the above quote i would say its your pitching that needs work, not changing the cd player- having a pitch thats more adjustable and even more accurate wont make it instantly easier- in fact it might even make it harder for you.
Every club i am resident at has a denon in each room for their cd equipment- ranging from 1800f to 4000 -these are big commercial clubs i work at-and very mush use the industry standard for equipment. Every bar i have played in also has a denon. They are still very much the most widely used cd players in the nightclub/bar industry.
Not quite sure what you mean by them feeling like toys-they do their job and they do it well.
end of messages. |

:(
Im having second thoughts
freak, considering your a DJ who does professional work, what is your opinion - all prices aside - of whats the better all around player? The Denon DN-9000 or a pair of Pioneer CDJ800s ?
keep in mind also that I never use the effects on the 9000 (my mixer does that), barely ever use the sampler. and I never use the ability to play another track on the same disc at the same time since I'll always have a copy
btw, to hear my pitching technique with the 9000s, download my latest set (11-16-03) in my signature |

hey man- i wasnt being rude or sarcastic in my last post- was a bit stressed due to stuff- sorry if i came across that way.
Just making the point that the denon is a very good cd player as is the pioneer.Dont expect it to radically affect your mixing- they are both professional grade cd players and with the exception of the platter arent a hellof a lot different- they do the same basic job.
Too many people see eqpt as the be all and end all of mixing and becoming a good dj. They are merely tools- the most important thing is how they are used and the techniques.
As for my opinion- well as i said, im used to denons- but i agree the 9000 has loads of features which to be honest i would never use- but should i ever need to use them, then it would be nice to have them.
just my 2 euros worth |
