xone 3d ftw though. |
I've played with a Xone 62 and a little with a 92. I haven't played with a DJM 800 though.
My story (it's actually a saga) with the Xone 3D deserves its own thread, and i had contemplated creating one, still undecided. So i'll give you a little summary to help out.
I spent 2 months trying to get the 3D to work with my PC and failed. I tried everything i could think of and everything the internet had to offer, the 3D and PC was just not going to happen. If you'd like a transcription of my email's between A&H and myself then let me know (there's like 50 pages of it). They gave up, that's when you know you're in trouble. For the record I'm a software engineer so i know a thing or two about computers.
After two months i gave up and bought an iMac.
The 3D works and i have no integration issues, however 2 channels are ed on it (they "bleed" sound really badly), so I'm getting that looked into now, I'm going to claim a new one, this has been the biggest ing hassle in my life.
One thing that A&H pretty much (read: do) lie about is when they say "you can lock the LFO to the BPM", that's utter crap. The LFO is set to the BPM, it doesn't stay with the BPM, which I'm pretty sure is what 99% of people would think "locking" is (i did). This is a fact, from Andy Jones himself (designer of the 3D). You can get around this though by setting the LFO/BPM manually to 1 decimal place (138.4) which is a piece of cake, they should have just left the whole "locking" feature out.
In short, if you ignore some of the utterly weird design decisions they made (3 channel soundcard instead of 4 ... wtf?) then it's a wicked mixer. Sound quality is what you'd expect (amazing!), the mixer just feels great to mix with. I haven't assigned everything on the mixer yet, slowly working into it as i learn/struggle with it, but if i can get all these issues fixed up then it will be awesome.
The whole experience has taught me that I need to design and make my own controller, but that would cost WAY more than a 3D, and i can't afford that right now :( I think in the future at some point though i will.
Hope that helped. It's a good mixer, but the amount of problems I've had to struggle through make it hard for me to say too much good about the 3D. Hopefully it'll all get fixed up and I'll be able to start just hammering mixes out the way i had envisioned ....
4 Tracks with 4 Samples running and a whole lot of filters, effects and VST's running :D
p.s and yes, speakers/monitors are next, but i don't think that'll happen for quite a while, I'm saving to move to Europe to live, that's a priority. |

Hey lads,
Finally got my room pretty much sorted, got my decks and mixer setup again now. Got my headphones back (after the pics were taken!) from my sister, and I'm ordering some speakers next month, weeeee!!!
I've been sorting my record collection for the last 4 weeks and I'm only up to "O" :-(
Room looks a bit of a mess as I took the pics early doors and I was in the process of movign loads of stuff around.
Anyway, you get the idea :-)

I'll take some more piccies once the whole room is actually sorted and all the records are sorted :D
:)

Mixed on my "new" CDJ-700s and DJM-300 mixer for several hours last night with my buddy while knocking a few beers back and had a friggin' blast. (I'm coming from Traktor so it was a good experience for me. I miss not having a waveform though :( but that's kinda why I got them.)
I've already gotten used to it, though it is harder to set seamless loops and such than it is in Traktor. Good practice though. I wish my mixer had filters or FX, but I'm still having a lot of fun even with such a simple setup. Limitations promote creativity.
I'll try to get some updated pics. |

bleh. not really happy with my setup. my 'studio' is a mess since i never have time due to work.
a little insight:
- have about 500 CDs (about 97% tracks in them purchased); each of them has a track along with as many remixes i'm able to purchase... everything from trance to techno to house to prog, and so on... some cheese for the locals, also! Erm, some tunes aren't bought since I don't exactly find everything on digital download. I'll tell you this much, I have a friend who basically has access to almost every track possible ;)... oh, and everything is in alphabetical order in that CD album, minus the small wooden crate & my other album that has pretty much all my old collection
- decks are american audio cdi-300's... laugh all you want, but they get the job done rather well.
- mixer is also aa (q-d6, to be exact), along with the other mixer sitting under that Behringer euro-rack (ub1002, small but efficient with what I want)
- the mic is a shure sm-57 hooked up to a digitech vocal 300 effects processor for the (DJ blah blah blah in the mix things...
- and eh, those are some old pioneer party-type of speakers with the sub-woofer on the bottom, all hooked up the Phillips mx3660d for that nice sound i get :)
- i'm in the process of buying 800's (new mixer, too) in the near future since I feel two years with those decks is enough practice... it'll be sad putting them in the cloest :(
that's about it! |
