Nice, what are you looking at getting? |

Well, just from looking around here and a few other places I've kinda landed on the following:
Pioneer CDJ - 200 x 2
Vestax VMC 004 or Numark DXM 06 (I honestly I'm still very foggy on mixers and am currently shopping around. These just seemed to be pretty affordable and somewhat decently recommended.)
Sony MDR-V6 Studio Monitor Headphones
Still not set on monitors.
I would love to learn on vinyl but it's just way too impractical for me, so CDJs it is. I'm basically shooting for something that's fairly simple, yet flexible, and also priced decently. Suggestions much appreciated, although this is probably the wrong thread for it. :p |

meh, an occasional hijack happens.
I've got 2 200's and a DXM 06, and I've been content for a couple of years. I just recently started tinkering around with putting aside money for more boss stuff since I feel I'm outgrowing my setup at the moment. I mean, I still think I suck, but I want better .
I've been torn between the Xone and the 800 because I had a 500 and loved its simplicity and how well it performed. But I also loathe Pioneer for raising the price of the 800 when they released the 700 and now the 700 is going for the same price the 800 was when the 800 was originally released. Mega gay.
I've never played on a Xone, but if I'm getting the cdjs they'll have plenty of effects on them already, so no need for the cheesy 800 effects. I want to learn how to implement the Xone filters and tinker about with 4-band EQ instead of 3-band.
Maybe I need to take a test drive of both over at Guitar Center, but this will be a waaaaayyyys out when I am ready to purchase the mixer. Maybe there'll be a new Xone out and I can get the 92 at a discount :toothless |

My advice would be to try the Xone out. You'll fall in love with it instantly! It doesn't have any effects like the pio's but who cares, effects are gay anyways. Fun to play around with for a while then you realize that less is more. Unless you're James Zabiela that is, but we aren't :) |

I'm pretty much dead-set on the Xone. I want something new and I don't really need or use effects all too often. The occasional filter, but that's about it. And hey, the 92 has awesome filters, all the more reason. |

for a beginner or budget mixer i highly recommend the denon dn x-100
http://www.denondj.com/prodview_item.asp?pid=7
i have it myself for messing around at home and it's a nice little piece of gear, it does everything you need it to do as a dj with no bells and whistles, for a beginner i'd almost go as far to say it would be perfect to learn on
the sound quality is good, build quality is good, all faders are fully adjustable and the headphone cueing works well |

Don't forget about the 42 too. Only 3 band eq and one filter per channel I think but it's another option. |

updated mine by adding the custom shelf in the back:
finally have a place to put my laptop and cd binder.
equipment is still CDJ 800's and a nuo 4
looking to get an AUDIO 8 DJ from native instruments for traktor.
edit: in case anyone is wondering, the vintage amplifier there is pretty much for aesthetics and to bring my laptop up to a more comfortable working level when im sitting in front of the booth |
