i don't think so, they cut the corner a lot on this one story wise... too confusing and hastily explained.
Who's the weird mexican guy, i swear i've seen him somewhere else. |
How was it confusing? They were told to get on a specific flight, try to recreate as much of the circumstances of the original Oceanic 815 flight and that they will get back. That's exactly what happened, and that's all we needed to know right now. I'm sure the questions like who the hell was the guy who talked to Jack at the airport, and how did Hurley and Sayid ended up on the plane will be answered as the show moves forward. This is LOST, not The Hills ;)
With that being said, this episode was brilliant. It was like a demonstration of fate in action and evidence of brilliant storytelling and writing. Remember the white tennis shoe from the pilot? Well, 89 episodes later, it is finally explained and tied into the story so flawlessly it's our first loud and clear indication that they are in fact NOT making it up as they go along.
It was a great episode, and just like it happened with Jughead where the on-island story was so fascinating and intense that I couldn't give two s about Jack and Co. I found myself not giving a about the island guys this time. |

I didn't like the last two episodes especially last nights. It's not too confusing, it feels like everything is being rushed along according to a preconceived plot. Events and characters don't feel natural. Its like they're doing a Survivor challenge race. Got the shoes? Check! Plane ticket? Check! Locks body? Oh I almost forgot him in the van lol. If your constantly bombarded with wacky theories and coincidences you start to get numb to it.
How they end up all on the same plane felt fake. Part of what made show work so well before is that you have a few characters confined to a small place, the island. Even when they aren't doing anything special there are those great little moments like Sawyer nick names and such. All this how to get back to the island has become more of a pre-determined exercise. The editing is disjointed trying to cover to much in too little time. |

I think that all of them ending up on the plane together was supposed to seem "fake." I'm sure there's going to be some back story of how they did get there in the future. How did Hurley get out of jail and to the plane and why did he decide to go back? Why did Kate give up Aaron and decide to go back? Who's the girl with Sayid and why did she bring him to the plane? I'm guessing these will be things that will be explained later and add to the story. It seems like there are no coincidences on LOST and I doubt this is one.
The bigger question for me is, do you think Ben killed Desmond's wife? Was that why he was all bloody and broken...maybe getting into a fight with Desmond in the process? I'm wondering if fulfilling his promise to kill Whitmore's daughter was the "loose end" he had to tie up. |

I first noticed this in the season premiere. It felt too "primetime" and rushed, as you said. I think part of the reason for that is because the episodes aren't character-centric (yet). In past seasons we'd get a more fleshed out episode. We'll see what happens now that everyone is back on the island.
Ps. I wonder if Desmond was on that plane with Penny and Charlie...? Weren't they hiding out somewhere in that region?
Pps. I accidentally saw the title for the next episode. Could very well be a massive one.

The moment he said he has a loose end to attend to that's what I thought of too. The only thing that has me doubting that is the fact that Desmond wouldn't let him walk away. He probably would've killed Ben. |

Well, we kinda already know how he got out of jail. Ben's lawyer ;)
And I'm willing to put money on Charlie popping out and convincing Hurley to go back ;) |

| I think we'll find out soon enough what happened to each character (Kate, Hurley, Ben, Sayid) |

How the hell did the US secret service let the same 6 who survived a plane crash let the same people get on the same plane again :p
Hurley says he bought all 78 seats, why is the plane full in the back? Does that add a bunch of new characters??? ugh... brace yourselves for 8 more seasons :p |

| I think Ben was trying to find Penny...they were both in LA and when Ben called Jack, he was calling from a phone booth near Boats and Yachts. |

I guess the writers need more characters to kill off. At least now when bodies start flying we know where they all came from. |

I agree.
The thing that was odd and just seemed completely half-assed was Jack's little encounter with Frank Lapidus.
- heeeeeeeeeeeey Frank you're the pilot, how cool is that?
- heeeeeeeeeeeey Jack. Is that all of your buddies? We're not going to Guam are we?
- No, we're going to crash in the island again.
- Oh ok cool, listen I gotta go back to the pilot cabin, and let myself and all these unrelated people that I'm responsible for, probably die in the crash. See ya later Jack.
- Yeah cool, see ya.
That's terrible writing, well below Lost's standarts. |

Yeah that exchange was laughable and they had all this time to write something decent.
While it didn't bother me the whole idea of Desmond sailing from the middle of the ocean to England then around the world to LA to deliver a message?
The whole Kate/Jack/Baby is very odd. We've already know that routine I hate you lets have sex and then pretend it didn't happen in the morning. *yawn
Characters are feeling like two dimensional cut outs of their former selves. Hopefully things will improve once they're back on the island and not run them around trying to explain to us all the questions of the previous seasons. |
