| I was talking to a friend who stopped watching the show a few seasons back and wanted to know if they ever answered why the Others were taking kids and what role they served on the island. I can't remember if they ever addressed. I thought the Others were the protectors of the island, doing it on behalf of Jacob. But if Jacob brought the candidates to the island why would he have the Others attack them? |

The way I see it The Others were Jacobs servants. As to why the took the kids it probably has something to do with them being innocent. |
