I think the beginning of the season finale was just mindblowing. with Jacob, the statue of Horace, and the pirate ship.
 |
Anubis not Horace |

Actually, it's still up for debate afaik...unless the writers mentioned it on some interview that I don't know about.
So far, it has been said that it can be Anubis, Sobek, or Taweret. I'm leaning towards Sobek or a blend of several Egyptian gods. |

Actually...I guess we have our answer as to what the statue is of...
...from the ABC episode recap...
| quote: | | And next to the foot is another foot -- and both feet have four toes. And as the camera pulls back, we see what we've been waiting to see since we first glimpsed that four-toed foot over three years ago... the towering, majestic statue of the Egyptian goddess Taweret. |

EDIT: Here's a better link to info about Tawaret
http://www.ancientegyptonline.co.uk/taweret.html
Among other things, it looks like she's the goddess of childbirth. I wonder if the trouble in childbirth we saw later on the island was a consequence of destroying the statue in some way? She's also tied to Apep (Aphopis) who many believe is the snake monster. |

So we all know that the smoke monster was able to get Ben to kill Jacob. As jacob stated "I see that you found a loop hole" The smoke monster can take shape and hence Locke was actually dead and the smoke monster was in his form, same when Ben saw his daughter where the smoke monster lives.
Even at the beginning that guy said to Jacob "I'll kill you one way or another"
Interesting thing though, if Juliet made the bomb go off then Faraday's concept would have worked, therefore Jacob would never have been killed.
Oh man soo Lost lol |

| If you are referring to the things the statue is holding on both hands, then those are Ankh symbols |

Here's a pic comparing the two statues (Tawaret and the LOST statue) before the face was revealed, but showing more of the similarities between the two...four toes on each foot, two ankh and similar ears and "hat."

Damn that episode was incredible. I really liked Jacob's character, so mysterious. I guess that new Locke is the smoke monster, which explains that we never saw Locke when Ben fell into the temple and his daughter appeared. And since when did Jack grab some balls to kill people and have such amazing aim btw hahaha?
We have to wait til 2010 for the last season?? COME ON!!! |

that's stupid.
why would they use tawarets facial features yet change her body 100%?
it fits sobeks explanation the most. and how sobek replaced seph's position as leader in egyptian mythology. seph is the god of chaos, which perfectly describes jacob and the dark character
we already thought the statues were anubis and horus, turned out they weren't. too early to decide still, and to me, based upon background story, relates much more the the story of seph and sobek |

Well...stupid or not, unless ABC has it wrong, it is Tawaret.

other things to note:
jacob and the other guy each seem to be able to shapeshift into anyone dead who has had contact with the island in any of the time cycles (Black Rock crew, Locke, and perhaps even Christian Shephard)
and by this, guide people to action.
perhaps jacob wants to prove that people can save themselves from destruction or he wants to save them himself, but cannot act directly.
the other guy wants to prove jacob wrong, and therefore acts to guide people to evil. he also cannot act directly to create events/kill jacob.
i imagine that these 2 guys have been far into the future and have seen the end of humanity many times. they continuously cycle back to specific points; jacob trying to change events to save humanity, other dude trying to stop him/prove him wrong.
as for the smoke monster, perhaps it's something set up by jacob to prevent as much evil as possible from entering the island. it seems to kill people who have done evil things in the past and don't repent their sins. this would seem to follow that if jacob wants to save humanity, he must create a good-hearted "crew" of people to disseminate from the island and enact changes in the entire world.
richard alpert also seems to be immortal, i assume he's also connected with jacob, like a servant. maybe ilana, bram, etc. are also servants of jacob, which would make sense that jacob's nemesis seemed scared when jacob said they were coming. seems like gods can't kill each other, but people can.
cool thing:
Thomas Inman was one of the earliest people to suggest the meaning of the ankh. Remember the original guy in the Swan station? His name was Kelvin Inman. Kelvin also referenced saving the world when he switched out with Desmond. I'm sure he knew what was going on. |
