I liked the episode. There wasn't a lot of action, but added a new dimension to the storyline. I wanted to know wtf had happened to Desmond for some time, was already starting to think the writers had forgotten it..

i know the show is sci fi-esk but last night was too out there for me. now we're talking about parallel universes and/or time travel? |
It WAS a too far out episode, but that's what Lost has always been about, brotha. |

| Oh, and Desmond didn't go back in time. He only relived that portion of his life again. |

Yeah, but how would you do that without travelling in time or to a parallel universe?
I think, as usual, the writers will keep the explanation as an unsolved mystery - and probably they'll never reveal it (or there simply isn't an explanation). |

When he woke up on the island after he got knocked out at the bar instead of the bartender... there was a dartboard lying next to him... and the picture he took with Penny. Where did the dartboard come from? I took it as an indication that it was there because it was an item from the bar and that experience was a little more real than just a dream... I wouldn't put it past this show to put people literally back in time... to relive a part of their lives and try to fix it. This show is about people on the island all having some problems from the past they need to reconcile... maybe the island gave Desmond a chance... and he blew it again??
edit: so maybe the fact that Desmond had a 2nd chance and yet he still couldn't fix his mistake was a lesson that you can't fix what went wrong in your life, you just have to learn to live with it and move on... all the characters have trouble moving on from their pasts.. |

It was.
And that whole "going back in time" was in his head. It was the island's way of revealing some of "life's secrets" to Desmond. No matter how hard we would like to back in time and do things differently, we just can't. The Ring Lady, which was the island personified, even told Desmond that the universe has a way of fixing itself. Him getting knocked out at the bar was the final message saying "don't interfere with destiny."
A more interesting question now though, would be the destruction of Desmond's supposed destiny which was to push the button. Since the hatch is now gone, does he have a new destiny?
Another thing I found funny was Penny's dad telling him that he'll never be a great man; never worthy of drinking the whisky that he has, or marrying Penny. Of course, he finished a whole bottle of that whisky now, so does that mean that he's also worthy of Penny? |

The whole theme of the show was pretty depressing, to be honest.
Lucky for Des though, the button is now gone and he should be free to do whatever he wants (hopefully). |

| I think Desmond has a brain tumour, and he will be the one to die, not Charlie. |
