I think that is going to be one of the main plots later on in the coming seasons. That's why they put Alex giving Locke the gun, to remind the spectators that she exists and will be a relevant part of the story. |

I try not to think too much into these details since I don't think the writers really knew what they were doing throughout most of the show.
For instance, why did the Others have superhuman strength at one point? |
