You lost me here?? What do you mean when they are resurrected, they can't be harmed? And how does hurting Sayid signify that he's been claimed by Jacob's nemesis? |

| I'd guess that it's because someone who has been resurrected by Jacob wouldn't feel pain? Just a guess though. |

Reverse logic. Sayyid was hurt after the ash was blown on him. (ash cirles/protection is an ancient egyptian ritual, btw)
We know that the ash repels j's nemesis. If they tortured him first and he wasn't injured, they would have no way of telling whether it was Jacob or nemesis who claimed him.
I think that if someone dies/is dead on the island, Jacob/nemesis can take the FORM of that person (see locke). However, if someone is resurrected via the fountain, the original body can be reanimated, but now acting under Jacob's/nemesis' slowly growing influence (infection)
I think that the fountain was under Jacob's control and only he could claim anyone resurrected there. However, the water turned cloudy after his death. The others probably gambled on whether Jacob would still have some way to claim Sayyid. It seemed they had never seen the water cloudy before and decided to take a risk. |

They poured ash around the temple and I'm assuming the wooden barricades are for humans under the influence of nemesis or while he's in human form. |

I'll take a random guess: to make the ash to protect them they need to burn some special wood, which could be what the temple is built out of. |

| His character said Kate had knocked him out with the butt of her gun a while back. Was he on the show before, or was that not shown? |
