Yes, because we know god always steps in to prevent bad from happening, as well as punishing evil people and protecting the innocent. |

It's obviously nationalistic political rhetoric in their fight against perceived imperialism. It seems like they don't realize that all Americans don't support the hegemonic foreign policy of Washington... |
Actually, Krypton, when foreigners say "Death to America", quite a few of them do mean it, at least here. I personally grew up in a culture that vilified Americans for nearly everything that happened in the world. This hatred is often so childish and absurd, that it reminds me of some conspiracy theories in this thread, which seem to consider the American government some kind of almighty omnipresent entity. And that came from people I used to look up as a child, namely teachers and grandparents.
If there's anything good about Bush's administration is the fact that it showed the world that Americans dislike their government as much as the rest of us, so it became easier to foreigners to distinguish the government from the people. |

According to some Christians, natural disasters would be the work of Satan, not God. According to those in the Pat Robertson camp, natural disasters are God's judgment. It depends on what kind of theist you ask...
Ephesians 2:2
1As for you, you were dead in your transgressions and sins, 2in which you used to live when you followed the ways of this world and of the ruler of the kingdom of the air, the spirit who is now at work in those who are disobedient. |

God has intervened in the world before (according to virtually any faith worth mentioning) so his spectacular failure to NOT act at various times in the modern era indicates that
A) he doesn’t exist or,
B) he's an inconsistent bastard |

It appears God does things according to his will. If the storm was not meant to develop and make landfall somewhere on earth, then it would not have formed. Nature continues on its divine course. According to the bottom passages, storms are both punishment and demonstrator of God's power. He decides, again according to whatever is his will.
Exodus 9:22-26
22 Then the LORD said to Moses, "Stretch out your hand toward the sky so that hail will fall all over Egypt—on men and animals and on everything growing in the fields of Egypt." 23 When Moses stretched out his staff toward the sky, the LORD sent thunder and hail, and lightning flashed down to the ground. So the LORD rained hail on the land of Egypt; 24 hail fell and lightning flashed back and forth. It was the worst storm in all the land of Egypt since it had become a nation. 25 Throughout Egypt hail struck everything in the fields—both men and animals; it beat down everything growing in the fields and stripped every tree. 26 The only place it did not hail was the land of Goshen, where the Israelites were.
Mark 4
5That day when evening came, he said to his disciples, "Let us go over to the other side." 36Leaving the crowd behind, they took him along, just as he was, in the boat. There were also other boats with him. 37A furious squall came up, and the waves broke over the boat, so that it was nearly swamped. 38Jesus was in the stern, sleeping on a cushion. The disciples woke him and said to him, "Teacher, don't you care if we drown?"
39He got up, rebuked the wind and said to the waves, "Quiet! Be still!" Then the wind died down and it was completely calm.
40He said to his disciples, "Why are you so afraid? Do you still have no faith?"
41They were terrified and asked each other, "Who is this? Even the wind and the waves obey him!" |

Of course it's a load of crap. You're an atheist. Think for a second from other perspectives other than your own. I'm just telling you what's up from the theological perspective. But I don't think any of this is relevant in a 911 thread...:p |

It has nothing to do with my atheism, its to do with my acceptance of a rational and scientific explanations for weather (which is agreed to by any respectable theologian I might add).
and the 911 thread. its a piece of anyway! :D |
