They were taken to Israel, presumably, and nobody knows their fate. The next day, something happened, which we do know about, a lot. Militants in Gaza, probably Islamic Jihad, abducted an Israeli soldier across the border. That's Corporal Gilad Shalit. And that's well known; the first abduction is not. Then followed the escalation of Israeli attacks on Gaza, which I don't have to repeat. It's reported on adequately.
The next stage was Hezbollah's abduction of two Israeli soldiers, they say on the border. Their official reason for this is that they are aiming for prisoner release. There are a few, nobody knows how many. Officially, there are three Lebanese prisoners in Israel. There's allegedly a couple hundred people missing. Who knows where they are?
But the real reason, I think it's generally agreed by analysts, is that -- I'll read from the Financial Times, which happens to be right in front of me. "The timing and scale of its attack suggest it was partly intended to reduce the pressure on Palestinians by forcing Israel to fight on two fronts simultaneously." David Hirst, who knows this area well, describes it, I think this morning, as a display of solidarity with suffering people, the clinching impulse.
It's a very -- mind you -- very irresponsible act. It subjects Lebanese to possible -- certainly to plenty of terror and possible extreme disaster. Whether it can achieve any result, either in the secondary question of freeing prisoners or the primary question of some form of solidarity with the people of Gaza, I hope so, but I wouldn't rank the probabilities very high. |

I use to think that even though his opinion was ass back ward from mine, Cyrus was an intelligent person, but after reading his recent posts dealing with the new events. I am seeing cyrus for what he really is, some ignorant lil jihad lover that has no real grasps on the real world. He lives in the west, protected by the west, his rights are provided by the west, but he hates the west so much he comes on here and spews hate, it is becoming pathetic indeed. |

Your assesment of Cyrus is quite off mark. Let me make some brief statements to elaborate on that:
a) Cyrus is an athiest. I haven't "come across" a more secular person in my life.
b) Cyrus doesn't hate the West.
c) "Jihad" means "struggle," not warfare. And that has an array of different meaning in different contexts which I won't get into at this moment. So please stop using that term in a derogatory and negative context, it only demonstrates ignorance. |

they can buy as much as they want, but they can't call it China #2 because it's called Canada.
when jewish people came here, bought these lands and developed them there wasn't a country or a state here called Arabia or something. at first there was the Ottoman Empire which allowed the settlements of jewish people. later there was the british mandate which allowed and supported the establishment of a jewish national home. and you agree, that when I want to buy something from you, you can say no? that's what the arabs should have done if they really wanted these lands.

actually those "dispicable zionists" were allowed to establish their own national home in this land as long as the arabs won't get hurt by this (meaning, not the whole territory belonged to the jewish people back then).
after the UN partition plan (which decided to divide the land, and to end the british mandate) the arabs here started to go crazy, attacking the jewish settlements everywhere and killing innocents. then, as I assume you already know, the 1948 Arab-Israeli war broke, or in other words Israel War of Independence, which "helped" to the expansion of our borders. bear in mind that it was the arabs who initiated the war.

yes we won the war. we killed only because they killed first.
