this is interesting.
if i deploy to this place ThumbRape; the closest city (Salalah) is 45 miles away.
where i live now, the closest big city is about 75 miles away (OKC). granted, there are little towns along the road from here to OKC and there aren't any (at least i can see on google earth) from TR to SAL, but it still struck me as funny.
also, a body of water is closer too.
and i'll miss winter here. yeah no freezing rain!
and i'll miss our unit's inpsection in may
but i'll miss severe weather season, and our shop will be down to 5 out of 11 authorized people because of other deployments too. that really sucks, and i'm upset about that. we won't have an officer in our shop (since i'll be gone); and there's a lot of folks that are working almost against us to get us more people...but i guess that's the way it goes.
i'm psyching myself up for this deployment. i think it'll be a great experience.
but six months away from family, friends, and Max Power...what am i going to snuggle with at night?
looking at climo for this place, it's ing windy as hell (average wind speeds of 22mph in the summer time). granted the wind comes off the water, that's still 45 miles away of desert it has to cross. so woo ho for sand in my shorts. (And i thought oklahoma was windy!)
lots of civilians already there w/ Dyncorp. but everyone (apparently) lives in Tent City.
and SIX MONTHS OF TAX FREE INCOME! no more student loans! WOOPEE!!!!! |

Looks like it's going to be an interesting deployment. Good luck, man.

| So at any point in your airforce career are they going to give you a gun or a plane... or a plane with guns? |

I'm a weather guy.
short answer: no.
but most deployments you bring with you a gun. either an M9, M4 or M16. |

I've written several letters on Bill's behalf asking the president to send him an A-10D. Technically, there's no need for him to be flying a ground attack aircraft with a 30mm Rotary Cannon. Cloud cover and low pressure systems simply displace in the path of unmitigated manhood issuing in the form of depleted uranium at 70 rounds per second. Having anticipated these arguments, I have assured them that this will go a long way to establishing good PR. Will is, after all, a prominent figure-head in the trance recovery community.
I have only heard from the F.B.I. concerning these letters, asking me to stop sending them and following up with questions regarding Will's recovery from a trance. I didn't think they took that Manchurian candidate scenario so seriously. LOTS of questions with phrases like, "amenability to coercion". |

It is the Edsel of killing machines. A remarkable piece of work for its simplicity and ability and it is so graceful. I lived next to a base where they were stationed for a while. Albeit audible, they are ridiculously quiet for what they are. |
