I know but it would sort of spoil the joke.
Which, as a matter of fact, I also heard on Argumental :p |

being extrovert, people get offended by the most bizarre reasons! An acquaintance introduced himself earlier this year as Buzz (after "Buzz Lightyear"), because he looks just like the character. Everyone keeps throwing references when talking to him and whatnot, and he's friends with some very good friends of mine, so I've always been friendly with him. So tonight I saw a picture of the toy astronaut and thought I'd share it with him... and added the following caption: "Hey, congrats on your new job - a friend spotted you in a neighbouring city!":
And the guy got butthurt! I then pm'd him asking if it was something I said and...
| quote: | | "Well, I don't really like the nickname, but what can I do if everybody calls me that way. I don't know, I miss being called by my own name. <personal stuff that left me none the wiser>" |
Then why not introduce himself by his own name?! I mean, what is it with people that they suddenly get offended out of the blue? Earlier this week a prick from work (whom I knew beforehand to be a bit of a cunt anyway) decided to throw a fit in front of everyone because of a nickname he himself told us about (and was just his name with the emphasis on the wrong syllable), and now this!
I swear sometimes I just want to be a serious misanthrope who thinks about nothing but my own research. I bet that would give me way less headache than caring about people and trying to be friends with them... |

LOL, as I get older, I think I become more and more of a misanthrope :p
The dude you're describing, though, sounds like a bit of a knob.
I introduce myself as 'Stu' - And that's what everyone calls me. I mean, I kind of 'react' when people call me Stuart, but that's only because I think I'm in trouble for something! Must be a leftover thing from childhood :p
----------
STUART!

I try to, but my inner humanist keeps coming back and saying "Hey, you know everyone's a bit insecure... let them be, they just need love". Sure, I know people are hostile when they feel they're being threatened, and the more insecure you are the easier it is to think you're being mocked/disrespected/whatever, but... really!? Talk about being thin-skinned!

Yeah, I know, but for some reason I was lucky enough not to have this sort of problem until fairly recently. Maybe I got used to the really awesome crowd I met at uni and in the Japanese colony near my old house... So I guess I get stunned more easily every time something "normal" happens. |
