Uh-ohh, Selma can't smoke. |
*Cue Armin's The longest Day of My Life*
I took the day off work for other people's safety,
If I can hold off smoking today, I'll seriously consider quitting smoking altogether.
.....yeah right. |

I got two teef extractions yesterday. And never ever again. While the surgery went smoothly (you're the most patient patient I've ever had O.o).. the sheer paranoia of getting Dry Socket is agonizing enough.
|
You should be paranoid, it's a very common occurrence and I hear it's pretty terrible. I'm pretty sure my paranoia kept me safe :p |

Those s. Had I known this was a possibility I would NOT have gotten them extracted. In fact they didn't even mention it until I came home and Google'd "tooth extraction complications".
.
FUUUUCCCCKKKK!!! |

| Yeah you can't smoke for at least a week (no drinking from straws either), depending on how fast you heal. My friend didn't believe me when I told him it was fairly easy to get a dry socket, and about 3 or 4 days into his healing he got one. Just be careful, maybe have someone blow smoke into your face? |

| Smoke them through your nose, imo. |

Awesome! Anon hacked one of the biggest chain of convinience stores in Norway with an open letter to the prime minister warnings of "several significant cyber attacks" and "Anonymous will be in the vanguard", unless the government pull the Data Retention Directive.
Awesome! I hope they take out the trains or something. |

LOL I've actually read that some people do that after extractions. If it wasn't so sad it would be hilarious..
I checked and there is a nice blood clot on the extraction site. I am praying to everything that is holy that they stay there, the next 3 days will be the longest days ever..
Bas, there is no way I can hold off smoking for a week, telling me not to smoke isn't going to work ( :( ). But I will tone it down a LOT.
My question is, would it be ok to place a wet gauze on the socket hole to prevent anything from getting there? (I had the extractions yesterday).
Thanks. |

That I don't know. Dry socket happens when the blood clot comes out too early leaving the nerve exposed. That can happen a lot easier when you're sucking in through a straw or cigarette because you create a vacuum in your mouth that can just pop them out. Not sure if the wet gauze will prevent that, it might. Maybe call your dentist/surgeon and ask? |

I tried calling him twice and no answer, I left a message and waiting for a call back.
I had 2 cigarettes since yesterday (trust me it took a colossal effort not to have more), and I was extremely careful, smoking on the opposite side of my mouth through clenched teeth in short breaths, rather that hard drags. It hasn't disrupted the blood clots so far, but I read that we can only know by the fourth day if we get it or not. :(
I am so scared I'm gonna myself. AAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHH |

| Why don't you just try the patches/gum/etc. temporarily? |
