its not about how you present yourself, narcism's talking about how you feel.
if you've never had a patient whose pissed you off you most likely havn't had much, or any experience in nursing. Its not about being a good nurse, its about having emotions.
if you're incapable, or beyond feeling , i would suggest YOU are a bad nurse. Nurses generally have high levels of emotional intelligence and empathy, which is what makes them want to go into nursing. this is a double edged sword though of course since it means you're more likely to get upset.
If you've never had a patient, or been upset, or annoyed at a patient, you've not had much experience.
its not about burnout, or being jaded, its about being a human being and handling, instead of repressing your emotions.
There's a time and a place for dealing with one's emotions, and it isn't at the bedside. ;)

I agree, and i think narcism would too: She wasn't talking bout taking it out on the patient. She was talking (as was lilith) about how nurses feel about their patients at times.
from your posts it seemed like you were criticising nurses who had negative feelings about their patients. narcism was saying its completely normal to have negative feelings, she never said that she took them out on patients, she said she had them, and any nurse who has been in the field for a while is the same.

No, actually, she asked if I'd ever been cranky with any of my patients. And Lilith specifically said she was referring to attitudes towards coworkers. I appreciate your attempt at butting in though. :p

upset with patients doesn't automatically mean how she actually treated them, although it is possible: And yes, lilith was talking about attitudes towards coworkers, NOT patients..
anytime! :)
my mum's been a nurse for almost 30 years, a lot of those in emergency, including running the division, in one of the busiest hospitals in melbourne-- I can't imagine any nurse being able to walk away all smiles and giggles, unaffected by that , unless you're new to it, or in a chilled out ward, and i think its extremely unfair of you to question people's work ethic based on your mostly-scholasttic experience.

I wasn't even suggesting that. You have a real problem pulling out of your ass and attaching it to what I say, don't you? And my "scholastic experience" is probably only a third of what I know. Lol, who are you to tell me about my own experience?? Get off my jock, bro.

How widespread/open is this Tall Poppy thing anyway? Is it really common to tell an overachiever to pipe down?
(I'm not saying I'm an overachiever, by the way, I just read about it on Wikipedia and imagine this is a possible scenario)
