Meh, I'm going to see Moby tonight. On my own, as usual. What really worries me is the fact that it's a free concert in Brasilia's main square and one can only wonder how crowded it'll be. I'm just going to wear a hoodie and pretend I'm bad :p
Besides, nobody listens to techno, let's go! |
I'm worried you're going to get kidnapped. Be safe. |

i didn't get what had happened until i saw "fat girl tasered" in the gif name. it just looked like she fell down for no reason or got shot or something. too jittery of movement in the beginning. :( |

Congratulations
Now, about that all expenses paid trip to Afghanistan you won... |
rumour on the street is that i won't be going now, because of Force Shaping in my career field. they're cutting 4 out of 40 officers in my year group....won't find out if i made "the cut" in November. thus, since i'm "vulnerable" they might just replace me with someone who isn't...so they wouldn't have to scramble to replace me if i did get cut in like 3 weeks.
smart thinking, if you ask me...something rare in the military sometimes lol |

I'm still looking for company... though I'm worried too :p
Talking about being worried, can you guys proofread this e-mail for me please and tell me what you think?
| quote: | Hello professor XXX,
My name is Lira, and I'm a student of linguistics at the University of Brasilia, currently writing my Master's thesis under the supervision of professor YYY. I'm not sure if you remember me but I attended a lecture of yours a couple of years ago, and we chatted for a while afterwards (I was studying Japanese language at the time). I'm currently doing some typological research on speech acts in the Je languages.
I've been talking to professor YYY recently about studying in the US, and I really liked your methodology during the talk, and wondered if you'd be willing to be my advisor if I study at the University of ZZZ. Therefore, I'd like to ask you what is expected from a PhD Student in your institution (I read the rules available on the internet, but the page about international applications is somewhat confusing), and what I should do to prepare myself in order to study there.
Thanks for your attention,
- XOXOXOXO |
Too verbose? Too informal? The guy is from the West Coast and has a Van Dyke moustache :p |

| Seems alright to me. Only, personally, I never shorten "I am" to "I'm" in professional emails. Actually, that goes for all contractions...I just never do it/prefer to leave the whole words. |

Its well written but this part could be simplified and the parentheses removed. They are frowned upon in formal writing. Also student I believe isn't capitalized. You could say:
What is expected from a PhD student? Do you have any suggestions on how an international applicant would prepare themselves for such a program? |
