Its like that in some states in the US....
In Washington you can get beer and wine in any store that has the right license, but hard alcohol (over 20%) is sold in state run liquor stores. |

In Queensland, you can't buy anything alcoholic at supermarkets or general stores, it has to be from a 'bottle shop' (liquor store/off-licsense for you INTLs). I'm not sure if that's the case in the other states in AU, though? |

| you can buy it anywhere here, from the walmart type big stores to the tiny corner stores, there's one about 200m from here & out of 3 aisles, one is full of beer, spirits etc etc. |

I used to get all my cheap grog from Sainsburys. 5 minute walk, 20% (++) cheaper than the offy - too damn easy. |

I'm pretty sure it's the same in all states and possibly territories. It may be federal law. |

Cool, I wasn't sure. The only interstate place I've been in a while was Bryon Bay, and I didn't bother to check if they had booze in the supermarket. I only went in for cheese and crackers :p |

LOL!! It's literally ONE BLOCK east of the Westin Harbor Castle. Bahahaha. It's one of the largest liquor stores in Ontario, too. |
