Very true, but I absolutely hate the mentality here. |

| There are a lot of good people here, they just don't speak loud enough. Or at least you can't hear them over the shouts of the others. |

Oh, I happen to like that. I live in a "big town" with a cosmopolitan twist, it's really bizarre. |
That doesn't sound bizarre at all. In fact, it sounds remarkably like Brisbane :p |

Maybe that is the case. I try to be optimistic about this , but it doesn't seem to be getting better. |

England is England, it isn't America or Japan, trying to make it like America or Japan is something of an attack on the national identity of the people living there and they will resist it vehemently. |
Heh, I wasn't really serious when I said that. It was more of a "what Lira's paradise on Earth should be like", but I don't really have any plans to rebuild London :)
Well, not yet :p |

Well you do live in California. That state really takes the brunt of the US' bull. Melting pots so seldom work out the way anyone wants them to. |

The 'noisy minority' thing isn't exactly endemic to the US, everywhere has it to some extent or another. Just that in a heavily media driven environment they can afford to be noisier and more pervasive than they should be. |

I think the greatest difference between our cities is that you live on the coast, so it's probably more laid-back... but, apart from that, I don't really think Brisbane is much different from where I live.
Though I hope you're not surround by mnml frks whenever you go out to a proper club :p

Why? |

Of course everywhere has it, but in the US people seem to take the whole entitlement to freedom of speech thing with a ing megaphone whenever it suits their whim. And yeah, just as you said, being a mass media epicenter certainly catalyzes this to an abhorrent degree. This country's wearing a lead skirt and the only people who know otherwise aren't exactly allowed to be here anymore. It's really an industrial tragedy doomed to profit, but at least there's still 30 Rock.

Nearly all Australian capital cities are coastal, except for 'the' capital city, Canberra. I don't know how much the coastal thing has to do with the laid back lifestyle here though. The nearest beach that I would want to swim at would be the Gold Coast, or if I go north (slightly further, the Sunshine Coast, which is where i grew up). The ocean off most of Brisbane consists of mud-flats/mangroves, which aren't that nice.
And we do have a good selection (sometimes, lol) of music availability, not all mnml frks :p |
