i'm applying to Sciences Po in Paris. i do have friends in France, but no family. I have one friend who lives less than 20 minutes away... she is an English teaching assistant. I also have close friends in Toulouse from my time studying abroad there, and a few other friends scattered around various French cities. :) I love France. French people are great if you just get out of Paris. Even Parisians can be wonderful, but it's pretty much required that you speak French.
Related note: I'm half German too! Except only by blood. I don't know a word of German :(

Alors, tu as appris le Francais pendant cet échange? Mais pourquoi faire au pair? C'est un esclavage. Tu as un diplôme, n'est-ce pas? Vas chercher un emploi au lieu de cela. Je pense que tu es un formidable peintre, oui? (Là avant Jay!). :p

non j'ai deja appris le francais. alors c'est pour avoir un travail et aussi une residence. alors je vais etre reacclime a la langue avant que je m'inscrire au masters. je suis paye pour etre au pair, c'est pas mal. j'aime bien ma famille :) je n'avais pas encore appris comment faire les accents sur mon nouveau ordinateur alors. ne me juges pas :p

According to this documentary, some germans were quite happy being close to some rench people, especially those of a female variety :o
