Using a weight bench (or similar), do inverted butterflys. Stomach and chest on the bench, reach back as far as you can.
Enjoy the burn. :toocool: |
from the description, that sounds like you're doing rear-delts, not back really. |

you'll target your rhomboids doing that, your spinal muscles, rear delts and traps. |

Damn Orbax, you got a nice looking back. That is the one area I have been struggling with. Any good exercises or tips to help? |
The exercises I had been doing were close grip (triangle bar with palms facing inward) seated rows. did a warmup of 15 and then 3 sets of 12. You bring the bar to your stomach and try to pinch your shoulder blades together. Really focus on drawing the elbows BACK instead of curling your arms to your torso. That way you focus on using lats instead of biceps.
T-bar rows with the same triangle grip. Again, warmup and then 3x10. Each set increasing the weight. Id usually drop back down 1 weight group and go to failure on T-bars.
wide grip and close grip variations of lat pulls downs and standing bent over reverse DB flies were my others. Id usually get most of those workouts in doing a back day.
the thing im trying NOW are wide grip chin ups, close grip chinups, 1 arm pulldowns, and reverse close grip pulldowns. Gonna see where that takes me.
also, doing a lot of core exercises for ABS gets that lower back really well |

how to motivate myself to workout ? (and don't tell me chicks dig it, cause ur a virgin lol) |
The best way is to learn how to do the workouts properly and get rid of ego, even bad ego. Dont be embarassed to try something youve never done. You dont want to do the same routine over and over again, it gets boring and reduces results.
The biggest motivation youll have is after a properly done work out is the feeling. After a while it becomes results, but I get depressed if I dont work out regularly. It boosts your strength, self confidence, and chemical balances. Its just a good thing.
So yeah, I would say spend a couple of weeks exploring new excercises and equipment, focus on making yourself feel the muscle its supposed to be targeting, and just go for it because after you explore it all, youll probably be addicted :D |

Hello all, been following the earlier threads a bit, and thought i'd post in this new fresh one.
I signed up today at the gym, and starting at 1 Sep. I'm going to post my measurements sometime when I get them. I'm fairly high, about 6"1 , but extremely skinny, which will be the hardest hurdle in my way, gaining lots of pounds, preferrably muscle :)
So I'm hoping this thread will be a motivation for me, and I'd welcome any comments, especially regarding diet.
I'll return with some measurements whenever I get them done. |

Eatsam:
how skinny is skinny. I was 140ish lbs and the biggest thing for me was weight gain. Pretty hard.
Diets going to be huge. Large breakfasts with eggs and toast and juice, eating 100 grams of carbs 50 grams of protein within an hour of working out, big pasta dinners with tons of meat and sauce. Youll have to just eat more than you are used to. A lot more. And lots of protein. With tons of carbs after your workout.
pack it in! but try to keep it healthy!
and Squats are going to be your key to life. Learn how to do those!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! They produce massive testosterone and human growth hormone. Your bench, curls, back...it all goes up in size and strength with squats so make SURE you do very solid legs days.
I would do squats, then walking lunges holding 15 lb weights knee never touches floor but gets close and never stop moving. do 4 sets of 12 with those.
then go and do calves and then quadricep leg extensions on the machine. and then knock out some hamstrings. Legs should weight more than your torso hehe they are HUGE muscles.
Also focus on other compound movements like incline bench and T-bar rows.
Good luck man! |
