Orbax, are you going for a gain in mass or just to tone? Looking at the pictures you've shown you haven't really changed much in the past 3 years. 28 lbs is a lot of gain, but where did you put it all? Your back is a ripped mofo though, points on that. I'm assuming you'd be toning with 12 rep sets.
My words to gain by is if I can do 12 rep's I'm going to light. And If I can only do 5-6 then I'm lifting too much. I do usually work in triangles from 10-8-6. I'll work on putting a workout regimen I do on here, but to be honest I never do the same exercises week after week and rarely in the same order. That's my motivation in the gym, changing things up.
I'm just curious to see what your goals are and to see if you've met em.

I hate fat so I try to keep light. Im basically trying to be as big as 170ish pounds will let me be. I got to 180 in march during my bulk phase but I didnt like it.
Ive gained about 6 inches through my chest line, lost a few inches on the waistline, and kept most of the rest in proportion and thats pretty much my goal. I like running, hiking, rock climbing etc... so I dont want to get bulky and hard to move. Im about to go into a bit of a fat burn session right now...
but yeah on the whole I like being a lean, more toned person. I drink a lot so I dont look that ripped hehe but in a couple of weeks it should be pretty sweet.

| Orbax, I got a question. How do you work the muscle that goes from your neck to your shoulders? I think that it looks really bad ass, but I have no idea how to work it! :whip: |

Two other moves that really blast your upper traps hard are Power Cleans and Power Snatches. |

Id do 3 exercises
smith machine shrugs, dumbell shrugs, and reverse bent over db flys with lighter weight than you use for shoulders but extend your arms and do the full shoulder motion. The upper half of an arm raise uses a lot of trap.
Smith machine will get most mass, dbs will add a lot of definition |

Orbax:
Thanks for the advice. Im weighing about 140lbs like you did, so I am aware of how much I'm going to have to eat . I'm living in a large apartment with 3 friends however, so it's hard having my food to myself. The last couple of days I have tried eating a lot, and managed to get about almost 100 g protein down, and all in all more than 2500 kcal both days.
So I'm trying to get used to eating alot. The only problem seems to be buying enough, and getting to eat it before my roommates do :)
Can't wait till tomorrow when I'm going to my first session of training. I'm going with a mate, and we're having an instructor teaching us, since it's my first time downthere. It's a really nice and very big gym, so I think they have all the right things. Read on other sites that free weightlifting is better in the beginning to get a fundamental strength build up within the body, then later on start focusing on special areas. So basically, staying away from most of the machines early on. But we'll see what happens tomorrow, my instructor is going to bring up a schedule for me to start off with.
Won't bother you with more for now, I'll keep you posted tomorrow with how it's going :) |

| Hey EatSam, make sure your carbohydrate consumption is up there as well. You need to partner it up with your protein intake; after all carbs are you energy source. On top of that you must drink a lot of water. One thing about having high intakes of protein is your body's ability to break down, specifically your kidneys, the nitrogen in the protein. Water aids in the transport of important nutrients to where they are in demand, making the recuperative process easier, faster and more efficient. |

Thanks for your advice Steven. I'm good at drinking plenty of water so that should not be a problem. A question, however, is if it's ok to drink soda when I'm here in the process of bulking. I mean surely the sugar will add on, but it would probably be better to avoid it and go for only water? Or will the extra sugar be an advantage energywise? I just need to know whether I should be hysterical about my intake of food and drinks or it is less important while I'm just bulking anyway, and don't need to be afraid of weighing too much..
Well, lots of question already without having really started yet :) Be back tomorrow with update on my first training. |
