Ok, some Q's.
Which is better for you? As far as releasing toxins, cleaning out pores; the sauna or stream room?
Also, I've resorted to the Eliptical (sp?) machine vs. running. I burn sooo many more calories, or at least it says so on the monitor. For example today, at a 150-160 pace for 40 minutes, I burned 401.2 calories. How accurate are these machines? It seems that if I'm on a treadmill for 40 min I only burn HALF as much. What are your opinions on this machine?
If I'm wanting to get as lean and hard as a say a Miniture Pinscher, should I resort to protein shakes or are they mainly for bulk & mass?
Tsank you. |
On the steam room vs sauna, I have no idea. I'll see if I can research it a lil bit and get back to you.
On the Eliptical vs Treadmill, I think the elliptical is better from the standpoint that it has virtually NO impact and is much less stressful on your joints. As far as calories burned, I would not put much faith into one of those machines telling me how many I burned. There are a lot of different factors that go into how many calories you are going to burn over the course of a given exercise. The machine is going to tell a 220 pound 3% bodyfat person and a 220 pound 37% bodyfat that they burned the same amount of calories over the same exercise period. Instead, I would suggest that you make sure you are maintaining your target heart rate throughout the course of the exercise - if you are doing that, everything else will fall into place. Don't get too focused on the numbers. Click
HERE to determine your target heart rate.
As far as protein shakes go, they are not necessarily for bulk and mass. In order to get bulky and massive, you have to do ALOT more than just drink protein shakes; it also has alot to do with the type of weight training you do. Drinking a low-carb, low-fat protein shake is a great way to supplement your protein intake via your diet because A. it's quick and easy and B. it's almost always low-fat (which is not true of all protein sources). |

I'd be careful using something like that, as those can be packed full of sugar and fat. I guess it depends on what kind weight you want to gain though. If you are interested in gaining overall weight and strength initially and then worrying about fat later, then it should be a homerun.
If you are trying to gain lean mass and not add fat, you would probably be better off supplementing with a straight protein powder (something with no carbs or fat in it). |
