I hear you both, thanks for the advice, you're pretty much confirming what I thought myself. I do see it as a science, and I'm aware that I really just should eat enough of the right things. See that's the problem.. from my calculations I simply can't seem to eat enough to get the +500 calories over what I burn. That is unless I add in some real fat stuff.
But I've come up with the conclusion that I'll eat as much good stuff as I can, then add in some protein shakes whenever I get a bucketfull.
About tuna, yes I read too there can be a lot of mercury or lead or whatever it is they're filled with, however small canned tunas usually are made from smaller tunafishes, who didnt eat a lot of other fish yet, so it should not be such I problem. I'm not afraid of it at least. One can a day shouldnt cause a problem.
I think I'll try making the pasta + very meaty sauce as often as I get the chance. Well first off I should get some more training, then we'll see what happens ;) I really liked it today, it felt good, so I'm really looking forward to going again saturday. I got a very easy starters program, using only machines, then switching to free weight in a few weeks when I got the routines worked in. |

Btw Orbax, 268 g protein that's just sick  I can see the protein supplement is very important if I am to get anywhere.
I had about 92g prot,435g carbs,85g fat ,overall 2877 calories today. Which for me was hard to get down :) But I had way too much salad, filled me up.. |

Going well here, feels good so far.. only been working out 3 times so far, but it feels really great, think in a couple of months the results will be quite visible already.
Got one problem, as I can't drink milk or cocoa or the sorts on it own(only with oatmeal or the likes), I don't know what to mix my protein up with.. Guess I need some flavor that's possible to drink with water. Tried a vanilla :( Was about to puke after drinking a few sips.. Any suggestions here? |

| I do it with Silk Soy milk...but water works fine and so does Orange Juice. Citric Acid helps stuff get absorbed faster so if you can find a flavor you like use that. |

i've always used water myself. i find that the chocolate flavors are usually pretty decent as far as taste (don't ever get strawberry ones hahaha) and i will also drink vanilla, but i don't like it. |

My question is:
I've always been very athletic as a child and all throughout High School as well until college hit. If I have the time, my original plan was 4x a week, I would do run on the treadmill for 20 min. Well.. I've not been sticking by my plan much. I used to always have that "V" whatever muscle that is on my back shins. Now it's barely visible and I want it back. Size is still the same. Is that toning? To be honest, running bores me and feels like a chore, until of course afterwards you feel great and stress-free. I want to start riding a bike. I don't know whether to choose flat terrain or hilly terrain. I don't want any bulk. Not calve nor shin bulk, just definition. What does that entail? Flat terrain, at a steady pace for a long period of time on a low gear? or middle gear? high? or hilly spurts? I never used the stair stepper for fear it would make me bulky. Is this the same instance? :conf: |

hmmm...well...its kinda hard to put on a lot of weight on that part of the body so i'd have to think that it's just the lack of activity that is causing for the loss in definition. if you wanted to not necessarily "bulk" on your leg hehehe :p, but wanted to get some definition back i'd suggest do your bike riding, but also just doing some simple toe raises without any weight a couple of times a week. you can just do it at home against the wall or something...maybe just do 3-4 sets of like 40 and see if you start to notice that v-shape you want coming back... |

hey, thanks.
as far as the biking, do i want the gears at a low level or high? hills or no hills? actually, what about hills on the lowest level? then i wouldn't be using any extra weight to create bulk? |

| Similar to lifting weights, I suppose low gears would trim your legs, and high gears would get them more pumped, but I doubt you would ever pack serious muscle unless you were a pro rider and took 100 km a day. So basically I think you should just ride as much as possible on a mixed route, of course not too easy, but with enough challenge in it to work on your legs. |

| By the way, remember that riding unnaturally high gears is very hard on the knees, so don't force yourself too much, but try riding the gears that fit the situation. You don't want a knee injury! |

What about an old Schwinn bike with no gears at all? Would that work? You know, those vintage classics...
or would the act of raising my hind to petal up the hills need to be a necessity? to work the core muscles?
I just don't know whether i need to go out and buy a mountain bike or what. aren't those Schwinn's so cool! :D Maybe this is the wrong thread for this.
