I do straighten up because its kind of an all around back and shoulder exercise. you can only rotate your shoulder so far back so when you stand up it helps add some motion.
and on the ab exercise...this is the correct version:

and only do THIS:

after youve done the other till failure
today I was able to do 8/6,7/5,6/3 for an idea of how hard they are hehe. The farther the feet out the harder so that legs curled one is for filling in the gap |

Total n00b question from me:
Is it better to have dinner before or after you start your workout? In my case, since I'm starting again, it's just 40-45 min. walks on the treadmill. |
when you eat and drink all the blood goes to your stomach (big muscle) and starts digesting. When you work out the blood goes to the target area and tends to make your stomach vacate whatever is in it when the blood leaves.
So your ultimate goal is no food in stomach. That means eat far enough in advance to where its all in your intestines, eat a very small amount 30 min before, or just wait and then eat a nice big meal after.
I like small meals all day long so youre never in a food coma. |

Although I might not have the definition you guys have and stuff... my abs can handle alot of punishment - and I dont have mercy on myself when Im pumpin' out the leg lifts and crunches. |

I would say two thing:
You look at the guys who have world record pushups and situps and they have horrible bodies. no definition, nothing.
I was able to do about 5x15 the firs time I did it and then I changed the form so i was bending at the top of the stomach and not the bottom. That wont make sense until you do it and youll be like "oh...no wonder you can only do about 12 max the first time hehe"
so yeah, knock those out and and do cable crunches and youll be able to get a lot more ab growth.
Like every other muscle, high reps high sets promotes muscle leaning, low set low reps (so would have to be more difficult) will stimulate mass
amd if its still too easy do squats because your legs must be too small :D |

Ok, Im having a hard time visualizing this... hehe - I cant picture the motion.
Are my legs going straight up into the air and do I bring them down over my head?
Danila, I never got the point of the cable crunches - its anything but an advanced ab workout and it doesnt work for me. |
I started doing them recently and fell in love with them. If done correctly it is a very effective ab workout. When I first started doing them I could feel my abs WOrking hard :) |

lol, I have big legs.
I push out 250lbs leg extensions as a warm up... I have to use the free weight leg extension machine to put on enough weight to give me some resistance - usually around 350-375. :p
And at my peak strength, Ive leg pressed 900lbs - it was on a 45 degree incline - I had 4 spotters (the biggsst kids in my class) watching me to make sure I didnt kill myself. |
