My buddy pointed out something that the headline with that *might* be a parody of.

quote:
In England, newspapers at the time were generally small, and only had a single page devoted to sports. Because the English cricket team happened to suffer their first-ever defeat to the West Indies the very same day, that was the major story in most publications. However, in publications that did report the World Cup match, so unexpected was the result that it was presumed that the 1–0 scoreline was a typing error and so it was reported that England had won on a scoreline of 10–0 or 10–1.

I can't find the actual article reference my buddy showed me, but that is from Wikipedia.

Here's my take on it. That draw was like a win for the United States. It was a victory for them to come out of that match with one point.

Hence win was used instead of draw.

Here's my take, Americans are retarded (lolGeneralisation).

Dude, you can never get away from injustices, but having instant replay, and the way that I suggested, can work. You just can't go back on your position, as you have previously mentioned, that once you commit, you will go through to the bitter end. Even if you are wrong. So really, nothing I can say, will ever change your public mind. Even if you do think that the possibility is there. God this is pointless.

What are you blathering about? This is just proof-by-assertion: "It CAN work". I've provided at least five separate points as to why it won't work, and all you've said is "You can never get away from injustices" and stuck doggedly to this notion that we're only resisting your amazing proposal because we're stubborn Europeans who daren't think about rule changes.

I recommend watching the documentary Kill The Referee or Les Arbitres. It was shot at Euro2008 and has some nice insight on how referees act and how guilty they feel after they realise during half time or after the game that they made a mistake. :)
