Wow. I don't know about that red. That was a huge mistake by the ref, I think.

ffs netherlands should have performed so much better, if they put Elia on to open they could have pushed throughout the game instead of in the last 30 minutes...

they're starting lineup is wayyyy too defensive, kick it to mid-field, kick it back, repeat forever... :wtf:

interesting to see how aus go, no chance in the broader cup, especially with all the shuddy calls happening... red card for kewell... :eyes:

That's how it looked, but Japan also was pretty good at their defence and made it difficult to attack.
According to Van Bommel he played a bit to far behind, after the break it was better with the same players.
When Holland play against a defensive team often those matches aren't very nice to watch.
Two big chances at the end however.

Fifa called Sneijder "Man of the match".
Everybody thinks Van Bommel actually was.

that is a good point, and i think it was why the game against the danes was so slow too, but especially against japan, their defence isn't the best, it's more just that netherlands doesn't take risks...

whenever netherlands hit a wall, they just boot it back, instead of trying to push through, especially early in the game

That's true. But if they get behind against a defensive playing team like Japan it will be even more difficult to score. From the interviews I heard they were very aware of this and were told to be patient.
Still it really could or should have been better, but knowing what happened to other teams we shouldn't complain and be very happy with the 6 points now.
Today the Japanese defence was pretty good and Holland had a hard time to get within 16 meter.
