I heard people of the US bought most tickets for games at the WC. Even more that country number 2 and 3 together. |
not surprised but i would bet those tickets weren't normal soccer fans, probably tickets bought by american companies for their business partners. i worked for a sports league and although much smaller than the world cup many tickets for our major events were corporate, i wouldn't be surprised if this was the same thing. i could guess some companies held summits/meetings alongside the WC. |

Damn it!
For 30 years, the Dutch been known for its sexy way of playing, and sadly not winning. After this final, we won't be known for that, but we will be for the aggressiveness and fierce tackles, however still not winning.
I like players who are playing on the edge, like van Bommel (when he's not tackling or provoking, he's actually still pretty darn good), but I don't approve of his and De Jong's tackles and flying kicks. I don't know what it was, but it looked like all of the Dutch players were struck by nervousness. It never became a real match, not from Spanish side either. It's a given that finals aren't the best matches most of the time, and neither Spain nor Holland got around to the playmaking that they are known for.
I also hated to see that most of the players were that angry at the ref, but they had somewhat of a point. Instead of giving a clear corner kick after Sneijder's free kick, the ref gave a goal kick, which led to the goal.
Also, damn you Robben! First of all, you should've scored! Secondly, you dive every freaking time, but the one time you're actually allowed to go down, you don't!
Gah, this sucked :( |
Yep not much to add, think this is how most people in Holland see it.
They know if they didn't play well from the start it would become difficult against Spain and since they couldn't start as they wanted and had to, I think the game went like it went. Maybe it even would have been better if Spain had made an early goal.
This morning I got an e-mail from an Italian customer who still believed we should have won, regardless of the bad first half. He told me Spain is like Italy, now they think they have the best team. He thought it was much better in general if Holland had won, also because of history.
After I congratulated a customer from Spain by e-mail he called me to say thanks. They were very happy of course, but also said they had to work hard for it. Spain never won because they never had the winner mentality like Germany has. Now also because of the Barcelona players and way of playing that changed a bit.
Many people I know predicted Spain would win the W.C. in their pools including me.
I think it was worth to play different then Oranje did before, just to show what happens and to show how far you can get. The game was the perfect example why video consulting should be used in every way. Players will need to adapt, cause everything will be noticed.
Both de Jong as van Bommel should have gotten red as Heitinga shouldn't have gotten the second yellow card.
On the other hand the body check van Bommel got was revenge which also can't be tolerated. Same for the graping of Robben.
I wished Spain had made a beautiful goal without any questionable moments just before that, then at least there wouldn't have been those "what if's".
Spain showed they have best technique, good defense and despite just 8 goals you can win the W.C.
Spain, enjoy your victory, congratulations :) :)
By the way, first European country to win the W.C. in another continent, I heard today. |

True, but at the end that will only make it more popular in the US won't it? |

| people from the US bought second most i believe - vastly dwarfed by the amount of tickets sold to south africans, which makes perfect sense. |

Think they weren't counting SA as that would be obvious indeed. |

Precisely why I was cheering for Holland.
I mean, what next!? Girls that are just 50% Spanish posting giant coats of arms on random threads? Madness, I say. Madness!
At least if the Dutch won you'd be too high to brag, and you'd probably come to realise your team won against everyone else but there's no degree of absolute superiority involved. |

it's really ing annoying watching the games with people that aren't really familiar with the sport - i hear constant complaints about all the diving and exaggerating of injuries. nobody seems to understand that it's not always a dive, that even if it isn't a foul there's often a good reason they went down. and so on and so forth. |
