The posession may have been 51 to 49, but more often than not, it's not posession time but what you do with the ball that counts. |
That's what people with small teams keep telling themselves ;)
Seriously though, it is all about what you do with it but that doesn't negate the fact that both teams had nearly identical posession and they did all with for most of the match.
Think about the England France match in Euro 2004. England was better than them the entire game, controlled them, worked them and France still beat them 2-1 because in the seldom chances that france got they capitlized (one awesome free kick by ZZ and an injury time goal).
@bas - thought you'd like that ;) |

What do you think why Schweinsteiger is playing so well? Had Sarah promised every player a blowjob if they win we would have trashed Spain with half a dozen goals. |
They would have slaughtered the Spaniards, literally! |

Spain never plays effective, they play with a lot of stations from defense to forwards. And i just happen to love watching all those perfect flat passes, that look so easy, but aren't. Add to that all the ridiculous stuff they pulled off time and time again, and i was a lot more sold on Spain than Germany who just looked scared. It was more 50/50 for me before the match started. |
this is quite true: If you watched a lot of the dutch games it was very similar, although they usually had around 70-80% of possesion... in the last few games they've really been slipping, passing and possesion has slipped a bit, but i'm hoping they really band together... with de jong back in the midfield i think sneijder won't have to work as hard to create EVERY opportunity upfront, but yeah, the octopus can only tell us what will happen now... :haha: |

Well I'm British, played football every single day of my school life and a lot after and even still occasionally now and I believe that was a match.
I was watching it just hoping one of the teams would do something other than play defensive, possessive and most of all, boring, conservative uncreative football. The goal was the only highlight in that match and it came at the right time to spains credit but the rest of the match was not what you expect of two of the greatest teams in the largest tournament in the semi final stage - If you think it was worthy of that then all I can say is I have higher standards of the game than you.
And I agree, it's certainly not about goals or shots on target. |
Your opinion doesn't count though because you're clearly too distressed about Beckham to provide a well thought out argument. It's ok, your emotions will eventually stop getting the better of you :p |

Pfffft. Paul predicted all the outcomes for Germany correctly during the Euro Cup 2008, EXCEPT the final.
The putas ain't gonna win :p |

This was the final I had predicted before the WC started. Not because I'm so ing awesome at predicting outcomes or anything but just because these are my two favorite teams and the brackets made it possible. :p
I thought it would be awesome to have a final between my two favorite teams but I'm not so sure now. On one hand, I've always been a fan of Oranje and their trademark brand of football. On the other hand, Spain's team this year is practically FC Barcelona, which is my club team and they practice the same brand of football as them which I love. It would break my heart to see Oranje lose again and at another final, and it would also break my heart to see all the Barca players miss their opportunity of being crowned world champions.
I might be cheering for Spain a little bit more, if only of the affection I feel for Barca's players.
But really, may the best team win. :) |

it must just be the colors...he picks germany til that yellow comes along. and now of course he sticks with the yellow - the dutch flag is dull. |
