I am not sure what you mean by "failed to perform", but the team picked to win the tournament won it. Only in the US was Brazil picked to win it, and the US is not exactly the paragon of soccer knowledge and acumen.
As far England goes, tactically it was almost the same side as in 2006. What people were hoping is that Capello would breathe duende into the team, and that did not happen.
Germany was a pleasure to watch.
Argentina is coached by an ex-drug addict with no experience (in coaching that is) and they have a weak defense and midfield.
Netherlands was like the Italy of 2006. They almost won it playing ty soccer.

You might have a point about the ball and I agree with you about the vuvuzelas.

almost won it with a relatively useless striker who seemed to receive little consideration from the rest of the squad in van persie. was hoping they'd be a more cohesive unit in the final.

Em, Italy won it in 2006.

Van Persie is actually a very good player on the rare occasions he isn't injured. Apparently he doesn't get on with Sneijder though, and since Sneijder is the playmaker he just doesn't give Van Persie any service.

ya that's pretty much what i was referring too - he just seemed useless to the team- not because of his own faults though. sneijder played too selfishly in a few situations where van persie looked to be a viable option.

Out of all the world cups that I've seen, the one in 2002 was indeed the worst. Aside from the clear favoritism displayed by the refs towards Korea, the final game was poor, which will probably be remembered not by Brazil's good performance, but Germany's poor one.

This year's final was tight and it could have easily gone Netherlands's way.

A bunch of sissies running around on some grass. Let's not confuse this with rocket science please. I'm sure a lot of the people coming in this thread and calling it boring are Americans, like me, who can't get away from the endless stream of ******s looking to shove this garbage down our throat. I don't watch the World Cup too often, but that one sucked donkey dick, and hearing that it isn't even the worst just goes to show what type of 'sport' it is.

Oh and save the 'fatass american' let's see you running around for 90 mins bull. There are plenty of sports showcasing stamina that are either better or just as lame/gay. Cycling comes to mind and you couldn't pay me to watch those boners ride around France.

this is partially true, but he was WAY out of form this time, throughout the whole tournament, screwing up every opportunity of the many he had.

He only got one goal, and he's their only striker :stongue:

He was out of form cause he was injured for 6 months, and had only been playing again for a month or something before the cup started, that's why Van Marwijk kept him on, hoping he would find his form in the games, but he just didn't...

It's true he and Sneijder have beef, but he got a lot of opportunities to convert throughout the tournamnet and screwed all except one up with crap kicks and bad ball-handling :(

Also, Netherlands were an extremely cohesive unit throught the tournament EXCEPT in the final... If they had played the type of game they played every other game they would have easily destroyed spain, except their game, their teamwork completely fell apart, and most of our players ended up playing one-man-games... that's why it was so dissapointing.. one bad game at the worst possible time. :(
